Oh, The Things Your Tongue Can Tell You

I’ve known for a long time that you can tell a lot about your state of health from looking at your tongue. I just never knew what exactly to look for and what it meant, other than ridges on the side of the tongue. I grateful to The Whoot for putting together this article that’s a great source of information about “all things tongue.” 🙂

Tongue Health Diagnosis

You’ll be amazed what your Tongue has to say!

Tongue diagnosis is an ancient Indian diagnosis technique which many health issues can be diagnosed. When the tongue is examined a number of things are taken into consideration. The color of the tongue body, its size and shape, the color and thickness of coating is indicated to location of abnormalities and moistures or dryness of the tongue. These signs reveal the overall health to specific organ function, especially in the digestive system.

Have you ever wondered why your visit to your doctor or health professional usually starts off with ‘Say ahhh’?  You’ll be totally amazed at what your Tongue reveals about your health. The tongue is an important indicator of health and being aware of which body part each area of your tongue is linked to and what the different colors, shapes, bumps and textures of your tongue indicate gives you a brilliant early warning system that should not be ignored. The back of the tongue reflects your bladder and kidneys, the tip is linked to heart health, the tongue center is the spleen and the sides are the liver.

If your tongue is red with cracks on the surface, this usually indicates a fungal infection in the body, and it’s often accompanied by night sweats, problems sleeping and irritability. A pale tongue surface can suggest anemia or a hormonal imbalance in women. Antibiotics can often have an adverse side effect on your tongue too. Be sure to also check out how to use coconut oil (oil pulling) to improve your dental health and hygiene plus detoxify your body using all natural ingredients.

Tongue Diagnosis

See What Your Tongue Reveals About Your Health

A thin yellow layer in the middle of your tongue can suggest problems with digestion and skin diseases.  Swollen edges on your tongue and a thin white layer is usually an indicator of digestive system problems and susceptibility to water retention.

Scraping the tongue has cumulative benefits: fresher breath, less plaque buildup, and healthier gums. It’s easy to do, totally painless and a tongue scraper is very inexpensive. The Ayurvedic name for  tongue scraping is Jiva Sodhana. Ayurveda or Ayurvedic Medicine is a very ancient traditional health technique which assists in keeping both the body and the mind healthy and well balanced. – Source

The tongue has color, texture and shape independent from the apparent qualities of the tongue coating. A healthy tongue is normally pink or light red in color. Here are some of the things the body of the tongue can indicate :

• A pale tongue indicates the excess cold • An overly red tongue indicates the excess heat • Pale purple indicates stagnation related to cold • Reddish purple indicates stagnation related to heat • Bright red color may indicate the lack of iron or vitamin B12 • Red tip of tongue may indicate heat in heart  • Pale tongue body indicates blood deficiency

The shape of the tongue is also a source of information:

Did you know that the tongue is the strongest muscle in your body? It’s not just there for your sense of taste! The above infographic  illustrates some of the most common conditions that your tongue reveals about your health. The video below will explain in detail….

Great Overall Health, Detox And Cleanse Resource!

Wow, I came across this the other day when someone posted it on Facebook. Such a good, in-depth article about ways and means to be healthier. Some of the items mentioned have been featured on this blog (oil pulling, rebounding, lemon water, dry brushing, etc.), but this is a nice compilation of a lot of helpful information for improved health and well-being all in one place. One reason I am featuring it here is so I will always know where to find all the information myself. 🙂

23 Great Ways To Painlessly Cleanse Your Whole Body

by DREW CANOLE

A lot of people hear the word “detox” or “cleanse” and immediately have images of starvation and painful detox symptoms. In reality, there are a lot of things you can do on a daily basis to gently cleanse and nourish your body! In the long run, these habits can be more effective than intense short-term detox plans and for many, much more realistic.

1) Water

Water makes up more than half of your body weight. It is vital to every cell, organ, system and function that goes on in your body. It is especially important for the lymphatic system because it is what flushes your body of toxins and unneeded substances. Without the consistent flow of water coming in and out, your body will become like a stagnant puddle of water – yuck!

Start off your morning with a warm glass of fresh squeezed lemon water and – if you’re daring – add some baking soda. Both lemon and baking soda will normalize the pH of your body, are anti-carcinogenic, anti fungal, antibacterial and will pull toxins from your bloodstream. What better way to start off your morning?

For more info on lemon water and using structured water:

Structured Water: H2OMG!

2) Meditation

Cleansing the mind is just as important – if not more so – than cleansing the body. Meditation gives you a space to breathe and let go of racing thoughts and emotions. You can take five minutes to meditate, or 60 – whatever you feel you need. There are a lot of meditation aids online such as Alpha Waves, which plays music specifically formulated to help the mind relax and focus

mindfulness_519252dac41cf_w1500

3) Juicing with dandelion greens

Juicing is one of the most powerful ways to flood your tired body with micronutrients and flush out all the bad guys. Dandelions are a natural diuretic that help the kidneys filter through excess water and salt. They also cleanse the liver (one of your hardest working detox organs), are loaded with antioxidants, minerals and vitamins and act as an anti-inflammatory. We highly recommend adding dandelion greens to your juice or smoothies! Don’t have time to juice? Try our superfood-packed green drink powder Organifi.

4) Your Lymph System, Using DRY BRUSHING AND REBOUNDING

The Lymphatic System is an intricate network of nodes, ducts and vessels throughout your body that moves lymph from the body tissue to the bloodstream. Since it’s circulating through your body and is key to cleaning out toxins and waste, it’s an important point of focus when it comes to detoxification. A popular way to smooth out the flow of your lymph system is called dry brushing, which is the process of running a brush in specific, continuous, circular motions across your skin, upwards towards your heart. To ensure cleansing, add in some rebounding (physical aerobic activity) to your days to make your brushing efforts worthwhile (plus rebounding is fun!).

5) Hydrotherapy

After dry brushing, hop in the shower and alternate between 1-2 minutes of hot water and 30 seconds of cold. You can do this 3-5 times during your shower. If the cold is too unbearable at first, try lukewarm and work your way to cold. This type of hydrotherapy increases circulation and lymphatic flow, as well as boosts your immune system and metabolism. Once you get used to it, these shower cycles should actually feel pretty good!

6) Workout (qi gong)

Qi = life force and vital energy. Gong = accomplishment or skill. Qi Gong = Cultivating energy. It is an ancient Chinese health care system that uses physical postures, specific breathing techniques and mental focus to help cleanse the body and stimulate energy flow. It is one of the best ways to find relief from anxiety and cultivate inner peace. Even taking 10 minutes out of your day to do qi gong or a similar exercise will boost your productivity and mental performance.

Try it for yourself! Here’s how.

7) Stretching

We are always so busy going about our days tending to our responsibilities and obligations, that it’s easy to forget to stop and stretch out our body. Taking the time to stretch gives you the chance to ease out your tensed up muscles and keep your body functioning at a top-notch level. I’m sure you’ve noticed on occasion that while you’re sitting at a table or desk, your shoulders are hunched up. This causes all sorts of problems. Stretching is also a great way to rejuvenate your body and cleanse it through slow, steady motions and movements. These movements help increase the circulation throughout your body and stimulate the release of toxins.

8) Bone Broth In The AM

Bone broth is something your grandmother probably believed in (and she’s a smart lady!). This is an affordable, nutrient and mineral dense addition to anyone’s diet. It is particularly high in magnesium, calcium, amino acids and phosphorus and is believed to help reduce cellulite. You can use bones from beef, lamb, bison, fish, and birds. This is an immune boosting drink for when you’re sick and is also great for the digestive system.

9) Turn Off The News

CNN = Constant Negative News. The news is a money-making industry just like any other. Depressing and/or shocking news sells more than happy and uplifting news. Turn off the TV to cleanse your mind and clear your time for something more uplifting, like a walk outdoors or time with loved ones. If you are looking for drastic changes in your mental and physical health, try taking an entire week to do a media and electronics fast.

10) Sound Therapy

Because we are constantly surrounded by noise and disturbances, our ears start to become desensitized towards the higher pitched sound frequencies. This sort of therapy is designed to help restore that sensitivity again. When our sensitivity to sound frequencies grows dull, it also begins to decrease our energy, increases our irritability to sound and can be a contributor to other health issues. Here is an example of sound therapy for you to enjoy.

And some information from  Michael Reed Gach, who I featured in a previous post on using acupressure. Here he shares some points to hold that can help with detoxing the colon, relieving ISB, reproductive problems and more…..

HOW LONG DO YOU HOLD A POINT? Hold for 1 to 3 minutes as you breathe slowly and deeply. Be sure to apply the pressure gradually. If you feel a connection with the point, hold for a full 3 minutes. For instance, if your sinuses are blocked, hold St3 underneath the cheekbone for a few minutes until you feel a pulse in your fingertips to open the sinuses.

DOUBTS ABOUT HEALING: When you practice Acupressure (whether on yourself or others), and doubts arise, whether it’s worrying if you’re doing the right thing, or if you’re on the right point, remember — the purpose of your life and the purpose of doing Acupressure is not to sit around and worry. Doubts distract you from healing and can strangle your body’s vital life force. Instead, whenever you find yourself worrying or doubting, let it be a clue to take several slow, deep breaths. Just 4 or 5 super deep breaths can counteract worry and doubt to allow your healing energy to flow again.

TO RELIEVE GROIN PAIN, MENSTRUAL, ABDOMINAL CRAMPING, or SEXUAL REPRODUCTIVE PROBLEMS use the “Rushing Door Points” Sp12 and Sp13. Bend your leg. In the center of your groin crease is where energy tends to block-up. Gradually apply pressure slowly with your fingertips or use your knuckles to gradually press into the inguinal ligament, the big rope-y cord there. You’ll feel a muscular cord in the crease where your leg joins the trunk of your body. Hold Sp12 and Sp13 points while laying down for 2 to 3 minutes, taking long slow deep breaths to discover the benefits.

TO TONE & CLEANSE YOUR COLON + RELIEVE CONSTIPATION & IBS:use CV6, which is two fingers width below your navel. Lying on your back, apply pressure gradually toward your lower spine until it “hurts good”.  Hold for 10 to 12 super slow deep breaths. Do this routine 2 or 3 times daily.

Pressing CV6 daily strengthens the colon for cultivating longevity.  For colon problems, use it for several months, daily —  it takes time to strengthen your colon and cleanse it, but it’s so worth it.

No drugs or side effects; it’s natural, and all you need is your hands!

What’s Not To Love About Cherries?!

I was reading an article about 4 of the best foods for flushing fat from your system and it named turmeric (cleans the liver, your fat-burning “filter”), lemon juice (purges toxins from the blood), cruciferous vegetables (destroy fat-storing estrogen), and tart cherries. I knew cherries were good for inflammation and gout and helping people sleep better, but didn’t know they had a number of other nice benefits. How great, because I LOVE cherries!

(photo: doortodoororganics.com)

(NaturalNews) For those of you who love cherries, this ruby sweet fruit is much more than a tasty summer treat. Shown to combat cancer, improve sleep, balance blood pressure and ease gout, you really cannot lose. Compounds found within cherries also relieve pain as well as aspirin. Possessing potent anti-inflammatory properties, these delicious gems are an excellent way to ward off disease. Rich in vitamins and minerals as well as antioxidants, cherries are a powerhouse of nutrition and should be enjoyed often.

Relish the bounty of the season along with improved health

With the cherry season upon us, now is a great time for basking in all the pleasurable, health promoting benefits of the fruit. Here are a few examples of how cherries can enhance your well-being:

Cancer protection – Overflowing with beta carotene, vitamin C, boron and a class of powerful antioxidants called anthocyanins, cherries offer a formidable defense against cancer. As reported by Karen Ansel, M.S., R.D., in Eating Well, “… preliminary studies suggest the anthocyanin cyanidin may prevent genetic mutations that can lead to cancer and keep cancer cells from growing out of control. While tart cherries contain some anthocyanins, sweet cherries pack nearly three times as many (two-thirds are found in the skins). The riper the better: As cherries darken, they produce more antioxidants.”

Better sleep – Cherries provide one of the few naturally occurring sources of melatonin, a hormone that regulates sleep/wake cycles. According to a study published in the European Journal of Nutrition, “These data suggest that consumption of a tart cherry juice concentrate provides an increase in exogenous melatonin that is beneficial in improving sleep duration and quality in healthy men and women and might be of benefit in managing disturbed sleep.”

Pain relief – Research at Michigan State University discovered anthocyanins in cherries relieve pain as effectively as aspirin. Lead researcher Muralee G. Nair, Ph.D., observes, “It is as good as ibuprofen and some of the non-steriodal anti-inflammatory drugs.” The lab results indicate consumption of 20 tart cherries can significantly reduce inflammation and discomfort.

Regulate blood pressure – Loaded with potassium, cherries are an exceptional food for easing high blood pressure. A balancing mineral, potassium helps to maintain fluid equilibrium within the body by offsetting the bloating effect of sodium. Cherries are also a good source of quercetin, an antioxidant that maintains blood vessel integrity.

Tame gout – A study conducted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture found that women, aged 22 to 40, who consumed approximately 45 sweet cherries after fasting had improved urinary uric acid levels and lowered C-reactive protein. Further research demonstrated anti-inflammatory characteristics of the fruit. When rats were fed 2 ounces of cherries, joint swelling was significantly reduced. Both findings indicate cherries are an exceptional food for painful gout flare-ups.

Author: Carolanne is a nutritionist, natural foods chef and wellness  coach. Her website is  www.Thrive-Living.net

Here’s a little more I found at Truth About Fat Burning Foods about using tart cherries to combat pain and inflammation, flush fat from your system and improve sleep…….

Over 111 million prescriptions are issued yearly for anti-inflammatory drugs. These meds have been shown to wreak havoc on your digestive system, while causing damage to your heart, your liver, and your kidneys.

But the anthocyanins and phenols found in tart cherries have been shown to provide STRONGER protection against muscle injury and damage than these dangerous drugs. In other words, this tiny fruit has been proven BETTER than things like Ibuprofen for reducing inflammation and muscle soreness.

In fact, over 74 published studies indicate tart cherries deliver a high level of protection against cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, and can even fight against Alzheimer’s. Many of them also validate tart cherries and tart cherry beverages speed up recovery time from exercise and reduce inflammatory markers significantly.

But there’s MORE…tart cherries also contain a hefty dose of naturally occurring melatonin (improves sleep) and they have one of the highest anti-oxidant scores of all fruits and they score amazingly low on the glycemic index (~20). So they’re one the best fruits to eat for fat loss.

So by eating a hefty dose of tart cherries (or organic, flash pasteurized tart cherry juice) you can help your body recover faster, reduce joint pain through the anti-inflammatory response, sleep better, and fight inflammation to “flush out” more trapped fat from your body.

Hydrogen Peroxide: Inexpensive Multi-purpose Health, Household And Beauty Aid

Hydrogen peroxide is one of those readily available, inexpensive items that everyone is familiar with, but may not be aware of the wide variety of uses it has. It is definitely a multi-purpose health, household and beauty aid that should always be on hand, and this article by Andrea Harper does a good job of highlighting a number of ways hydrogen peroxide can help make your life easier and healthier. Just like apple cider vinegar and baking soda, no home should be without it……

hydrogen-peroxide_300

28 AMAZING BENEFITS AND USES FOR HYDROGEN PEROXIDE

By Andrea Harper

Hydrogen peroxide is the only germicidal agent composed only of water and oxygen. Like ozone, it kills disease organisms by oxidation! Hydrogen peroxide is considered the worlds safest all natural effective sanitizer. It kills microorganisms by oxidizing them, which can be best described as a controlled burning process. When Hydrogen peroxide reacts with organic material it breaks down into oxygen and water.

1. Whiten Clothes – An Alternative to Beach

Add a cup of peroxide to white clothes in your laundry to whiten them. Peroxide is great to get rid of blood stains on clothes and carpets. If there is blood on clothing, just pour directly on the spot, let it sit for about a minute, then rub and rinse with cold water. Repeat if necessary.

2. Health

Your body makes hydrogen peroxide to fight infection which must be present for our immune system to function correctly. White blood cells are known as leukocytes. A sub-class of leukocytes called neutrophils produce hydrogen peroxide as the first line of defense against toxins, parasites, bacteria, viruses and yeast.

3. Rejuvenating Detoxifying Bath

Use about 2 quarts 3% hydrogen peroxide to a tub of warm water. Soak at least 1/2 hour, adding hot water as needed to maintain a comfortable water temperature.

4. Foot Fungus

To cure a foot fungus, simply spray a 50/50 mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water on them (especially the toes) every night and let dry.

5. Douche

Add 2 capfuls of 3% hydrogen peroxide in warm distilled water once or twice a week to remove even chronic yeast infections.

6. Colonic or Enema

For a colonic, add 1 cup (8 ozs.) 3% H202 to 5 gallons warm water. (Do not exceed this amount) For an enema, add 1 tablespoon of 3% H202 to a quart of warm distilled water.

7. Infections

Soak any infections or cuts in 3% for five to ten minutes several times a day. Even gangrene that would not heal with any medicine has been healed by soaking in hydrogen peroxide. Put half a bottle of hydrogen peroxide in your bath to help rid boils, fungus or other skin infections.

8. Bird Mites Infections

Patients infected by tiny mites report that hydrogen peroxide effectively kills the mites on their skins. They spray it on their skin a couple of times (with a few minutes in between the applications) with amazing results.

9. Sinus Infections

A tablespoon of 3% hydrogen peroxide added to 1 cup of non-chlorinated water can be used as a nasal spray. Depending on the degree of sinus involvement, one will have to adjust the amount of peroxide used.

10. Wound Care

3% H2O2 is used medically for cleaning wounds, removing dead tissue, and as an oral debriding agent. Peroxide stops slow (small vessel) wound bleeding/oozing, as well.

Some sources recommend soaking infections or cuts for five to ten minutes several times a day. However, washing and rinsing action is sufficient. You shouldn’t leave the solution on open tissue for extended periods of time as, like many oxidative antiseptics, hydrogen peroxide causes mild damage to tissue in open wounds. Therefore it is important to use with caution.

Personal Care

Mouthwash / Tooth Care

Healing Properties: Take one capful (the little white cap that comes with the bottle) and hold in your mouth for 10 minutes daily, then spit it out. You will not have canker sores and your teeth will be whiter. If you have a terrible toothache and cannot get to a dentist right away, put a capful of 3% hydrogen peroxide into your mouth and hold it for 10 minutes several times a day. The pain will lessen greatly.

Personal Note: I would be careful with this and any of the other tips where you are using H2O2 in your mouth, as it may damage tooth enamel.

11. Mouthwash

Many people don’t realize that hydrogen peroxide makes a very effective and inexpensive mouthwash. Use a mixture of equal parts 3% H202 and water – add a dash of liquid chlorophyll for flavoring, if desired.

12. Toothpaste

Use baking soda and add enough 3% H202 to make a paste. You can also add some crystal salt.

13. Toothbrush

Or, just dip your brush in 3% H202 and brush. Soak your toothbrush in hydrogen peroxide to keep them free of germs.

14. Tooth Ache

Hydrogen peroxide is not a pain killer; however, as an anti-viral, antibacterial and anti-fungal agent, it is effective at treating the pathogen that is causing the infection. The following is from my own personal experience: My dentist wanted to give me a root canal some time ago as one tooth was inflamed and, in her opinion, would die. I felt some discomfort but told her that I would give it  a chance to heal. I rinsed with hydrogen peroxide (several times a day) as well as coconut oil (once a day). The discomfort went away and I have had no further problems with the tooth.

15. Tooth Whitening

Having used 3% hydrogen peroxide as a mouth wash for sometime ago, I am thrilled to note that my teeth have been beautifully and effortlessly whitened. I used to pay so much for professional whitening, those silly strips and uncomfortable trays. Live and learn.

NOTE: Do not swallow any peroxide. When the peroxide rinse is done, be sure to rinse out your mouth with water.

16. Hair Lightening

Peroxide is a bleaching agent and is used for lightened hair. Dilute 3% hydrogen peroxide with water (50 / 50) and spray the solution on your wet hair after a shower and comb it through. You will not have the peroxide burnt blonde hair like the hair dye packages, but more natural highlights if your hair is a light brown or dirty blonde. It also lightens gradually so it’s not a drastic change.

17. Contact Lenses

Hydrogen peroxide is used as a disinfectant in CIBA Vision’s Clear Care no rub contact lens cleaning solution, due to its ability to break down the proteins that build up on the lens from the eye’s immune response, resulting in increased comfort for those with sensitive eyes.

Sanitizing / Disinfectant / Cleaning

18. Straight or Diluted Hydrogen Peroxide

Clean your counters and table tops with hydrogen peroxide to kill germs and leave a fresh smell. Simply put a little on your dishrag when you wipe, or spray it on the counters. Use hydrogen peroxide to clean glass and mirrors with no smearing.

Keep a spray bottle of 3% (straight) to disinfect the interior of the refrigerator and kids’ school lunch boxes.

19. In the Dishwasher

Add 2 oz. of 3% hydrogen peroxide to your regular washing formula.

Fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of 3% hydrogen peroxide and water and keep it in every bathroom to disinfect without harming your septic system like bleach or most other disinfectants will. After rinsing off your wooden cutting board, pour or spray hydrogen peroxide (and then vinegar) on it to kill salmonella and other bacteria.

A combination of vinegar and hydrogen peroxide makes a cheap, effective and non-toxic disinfectant agent and is said to be more effective at killing pathogens than bleach.  As it is non-toxic, you can use it to disinfect fruits and vegetables, as well as pet toys, equipment and cages.  In tests run at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, pairing vinegar and hydrogen peroxide mists, kills virtually all Salmonella, Shigella, or E. coli bacteria on heavily contaminated food and surfaces.

Directions:

You need TWO spray bottles. DO NOT MIX the solutions together. Put straight vinegar in one and straight Hydrogen peroxide in the other spray bottle.

NOTE: Light destroys peroxide rather quickly. It’s best to leave it in its original bottle and screw in a spray head. DO NOT DILUTE THEM.

Remember for any sanitizer to work properly, the surface has to be clean before you use it.

When you want to sanitize a surface (vegetables, cutting board, counters, sink, cages, toys. toilets, floors, etc.), spray one (it doesn’t matter which one you use first) on the surface, then you spray on the other.  When they mix, for a brief time the chemical action of the two make a very powerful sanitizer.  You can rinse off the surface afterwards, if you want, but the result is non-toxic.

20. Mold

Clean with hydrogen peroxide when your house becomes a bio-hazard after its invaded by toxic mold, such as those with water damage.

21. Humidifiers/Steamers

Use 1 pint 3% hydrogen peroxide to 1 gallon of water.

22. Laundry / Stain Removing

3% hydrogen peroxide is the best stain lifter if used fairly soon – although blood stains as old as 2 days have been successfully lifted with hydrogen peroxide, although it will bleach or discolor many fabrics. If a little peroxide is poured onto the stain, it will bubble up in the area of the blood, due to a reaction with catalase. After a few minutes the excess liquid can be wiped up with a cloth or paper towel and the stain will be gone.

3% H2O2 must be applied to clothing before blood stains can be accidentally “set” with heated water. Cold water and soap are then used to remove the peroxide treated blood.

23. Washing/Laundry

You can also add a cup of hydrogen peroxide instead of bleach to a load of whites in your laundry to whiten them. If there is blood on clothing, pour directly on the soiled spot. Let it sit for a minute, then rub it and rinse with cold water. Repeat if necessary.

Peroxide is a perfect alternate solution to keep those clothes white. Also, when chlorinating clothes, they tend to wear out faster – peroxide won’t do that.

Food Preparation

24. Vegetable Soak

Use as a vegetable wash or soak to kill bacteria and neutralize chemicals. Add 1/4 cup 3% H202 to a full sink of cold water. Soak light skinned (light lettuce) 20 minutes, thicker skinned (like cucumbers) 30 minutes. Drain, dry and refrigerate. Prolongs freshness.

If time is a problem, spray vegetables (and fruits) with a solution of 3%. Let stand for a few minutes, rinse and dry.

25.Meat Sanitizing

You can also use it to rinse off your meat before cooking.

26. Leftover tossed salad

Spray with a solution of 1/2 cup water and 1 Tbsp. 5%. Drain, cover and refrigerate.

27. Marinade

Place meat, fish or poultry in a casserole (avoid using aluminium pans). Cover with a dilute solution of equal parts of water and 3% H202. Place loosely covered in refrigerator for 1/2 hour. Rinse and cook.

28. Sprouting Seeds

Add 1 ounce 3% hydrogen peroxide to 1 pint of water and soak the seeds overnight. Add the same amount of hydrogen peroxide each time you rinse the seeds. You can also use a mixture of 1 part hydrogen peroxide to 32 parts water to improve your plants’ root system.

Grades of Hydrogen Peroxide

A) 3.5% Pharmaceutical Grade: This is the grade sold at your local drugstore or supermarket. This product is not recommended for internal use. It contains an assortment of stabilizers which shouldn’t be ingested. Various stabilizers include acetanilide, phenol, sodium stanate and tertrasodium phosphate.

B) 6% Beautician Grade: This is used in beauty shops to color hair and is not recommended for internal use.

C) 30% Reagent Grade: This is used for various scientific experimentation and also contains stabilizers. It is also not for internal use.

D) 30% to 32% Electronic Grade: This is used to clean electronic parts and not for internal use.

E) 35% Technical Grade: This is a more concentrated product than the Reagent Grade and differs slightly in that phosphorus is added to help neutralize any chlorine from the water used to dilute it.

F) 35% Food Grade: This is used in the production of foods like cheese, eggs, and whey-containing products. It is also sprayed on the foil lining of aseptic packages containing fruit juices and milk products. THIS IS THE ONLY GRADE RECOMMENDED FOR INTERNAL USE.

G) 90%: This is used as an oxygen source for rocket fuel.

Only 35% Food Grade hydrogen peroxide is recommended for internal use. At this concentration, however, hydrogen peroxide is a very strong oxidizer and if not diluted, it can be extremely dangerous or even fatal. Any concentrations over 10% can cause neurological reactions and damage to the upper gastrointestinal tract. There have been two known fatalities in children who ingested 27% and 40% concentrations of H202. Another report tells of a 26 month old female who swallowed one mouthful of 35% H202. She immediately began vomiting, followed by fainting and respiratory arrest. Fortunately, she was under emergency room care and although she experienced erosion and bleeding of the stomach and esophagus, she survived the incident. When she was re-examined 12 days later, the areas involved had healed (J Toxicol Clin Toxicol 90;28(1):95-100).

Personal note:  As with ANY food, drug, or supplement, using the product according to instructions is key to safety.  If someone uses too much, then of course ramifications may be felt.  We’ve NEVER heard of ANY harmful side effects from the correct usage of Food Grade hydrogen peroxide.

35% Food Grade H202 must be….

1. Handled carefully (direct contact will burn the skin- immediate flushing with water is recommended).

2. Diluted properly before use.

3. Stored safely and properly (after making a dilution the remainder should be stored tightly sealed in the freezer).

One of the most convenient methods of dispensing 35% H202 is from a small glass eye dropper bottle. These can be purchased at your local drugstore. Fill this with the 35% H202 and store the larger container in the freezer compartment of your refrigerator until more is needed. Store the eye dropper bottle in the refrigerator. The drops are mixed with either 6 to 8 ounces of distilled water, juice, aloe vera juice or gel.

(Don’t use chlorinated tap water to dilute the peroxide!)

Here’s more about this “miracle in a bottle” …….

Spray down the shower with hydrogen peroxide to kill bacteria and viruses.

Wash shower curtains with hydrogen peroxide to remove mildew and soap scum. Place curtains in machine with a bath towel and your regular detergent. Add 1 cup full strength 3% hydrogen peroxide to the rinse cycle.

Use for towels that have become musty smelling. Combine 1/2 cup peroxide and 1/2 cup vinegar and let stand for 15 minutes, then wash as normal. Gets rid of the smell.

Use hydrogen peroxide to control fungi present in aquariums. Don’t worry, it won’t hurt your fish. Use sparingly for this purpose.

De-skunking solution: Combine 1 quart 3% H2O2, 1/4 cup baking soda, 1 teaspoon Dawn dish detergent, 2 quarts warm water.

Clean your sponges: Soak them for 10 minutes in a 50/50 mixture of hydrogen peroxide and warm water in a shallow dish. Rinse the sponges thoroughly afterward.

Remove baked-on crud from pots and pans. Combine hydrogen peroxide with enough baking soda to make a paste, then rub onto the dirty pan and let it sit for a while. Come back later with a scrubby sponge and some warm water, and the baked-on stains will lift right off.

Whiten bathtub grout: First dry the tub thoroughly, then spray it liberally with hydrogen peroxide. Let it sit (it may bubble slightly) for a little while, then come back and scrub the grout with an old toothbrush. You may have to repeat the process a few times.

Clean the toilet bowl: Pour half a cup of hydrogen peroxide into the toilet bowl, let stand for 20 minutes, then scrub clean.

Brighten dingy floors: Combine half a cup of hydrogen peroxide with one gallon of hot water, then go to town on your flooring. Because it’s so mild, it’s safe for any floor type, and there’s no need to rinse.

Clean kids’ toys and play areas: Hydrogen peroxide is a safe cleaner to use around kids, or anyone with respiratory problems because it’s not a lung irritant. Spray toys, toy boxes, doorknobs, and anything else your kids touch on a regular basis.

Help out your plants:To ward off fungus, add a little hydrogen peroxide to your spray bottle the next time you’re spritzing plants.

Dab hydrogen peroxide on pimples or acne to help clear skin.

Remove yellowing from lace curtains or tablecloths: Fill a sink with cold water and a 2 cups of 3% hydrogen peroxide. Soak for at least an hour, rinse in cold water and air dry.

Use it to remove ear wax. Use a solution of 3% with olive or almond oil. Add a couple drops of oil first then H2O2. After a few minutes, tilt head to remove solution and wax. Can also be used for swimmer’s ear.

FACTS ABOUT HYDROGEN PEROXIDE

Hydrogen peroxide could really be called oxygen water, since it is basically the same chemical make up as water but with an extra oxygen atom (H2O2). Because of this, it breaks down quickly and harmlessly into oxygen and water.

It is found in all living material.

Your white blood cells naturally produce hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) to fight bacteria and infections.

Fruit and vegetables naturally produce hydrogen peroxide. This is one of the reasons why it is so healthy to eat fresh fruit and vegetables.

It is found in massive dosages in the mother’s first milk, called colostrum, and is transferred to the baby to boost their immune system.

It is found in rain water because some of the H20 in the atmosphere receives an additional oxygen atom from the ozone (O3) and this H2O2 makes plants grow faster.

Hydrogen peroxide has a very simple composition: just water and oxygen. However, its potency lies in its simplicity: it is a powerful antiseptic and can destroy a variety of pathogens through the process of oxidation.

While hydrogen peroxide is usually thought of as a disinfectant for minor cuts and scrapes, it can also be highly effective in halting colds and flu in their tracks. At the first sign of any distress (lethargy, coughing, sneezing, swollen glands, etc.), fill the cap with peroxide and fill your ear canal. Tilt head for 3 to 4 minutes (or longer) to retain (there may be some slight bubbling), then allow to drain out

The key to success with this home remedy is the timing. You must get the peroxide in the ear canal at the very first sign of illness for it to be effective. Miss the window and you will most likely suffer the full bout of the virus.

The theory behind the peroxide protocol came from Richard Simmons M.D., who hypothesized that colds and flu viruses enter the body through the ear canal, not the nose and throat. Like most other non-patentable therapies, the medical community at large ignored the hypothesis and the effectiveness of hydrogen peroxide.

In 1938 German researchers used hydrogen peroxide to treat colds and flu with much success, but their research has also been all but ignored. However, even the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recognizes the effectiveness of hydrogen peroxide to kill influenza viruses.

Bounce And Bought! What The Heck?!

ReBounding: Get Your Bounce on!

As you know, your immune system is essential to keeping you healthy. Most of your white blood cells, which are part of your first line of defense against invading micro-organisms, are located in your lymph nodes and travel through your lymphatic system. The speed with which they go after unfriendly interlopers depends on the speed of your lymph-flow. So how do you keep your immune system strong and your lymph free-flowing? Exercise! Body movement is what moves your lymph because your lymphatic system doesn’t have a pump system of its own like the cardiovascular system has the heart. Exercise increases lymphatic flow as much as 10 to 30 times more than when you are at rest. It also increases the number of white blood cells themselves—after a single minute of exercise, the number of white blood cells increases two to three times that of normal. Yea!

But as far as the lymphatic system is concerned, it’s better to have several periods of physical activity spread throughout the day, so that it’s getting “pumped” on a regular basis. Rebounding, i.e. using a mini-trampoline, is one of the absolute best activities you can do to support the health of your lymph, and doing it 3 to 5 times a day for 5 to 10 minutes at a time is ideal. Unlike The Five Tibetans and planking, rebounding does require special equipment, but a mini-trampoline is not overly expensive, and you don’t need special clothing or training or much space to use it. And rebounding fulfills what are considered the 3 most important considerations in choosing an exercise:

1- All cells should be exercised – All 75 trillion cells in our body should be exercised, not just an isolated area of the body.

2- Stress on the joints should be minimal – Injury is the biggest problem that keeps people from continuing an exercise program; getting injured is unhealthy because healthy cells are being destroyed and added strain is put onto the immune system to repair the damage. Exercises that put undue stress on the joints (knees, ankles, lower back, shins, etc.) should be avoided.

3- Convenience – If an exercise isn’t convenient to do, then people usually don’t stick with it very long.

Rebounding is one of the few exercises that meets all three of these requirements, and it offers more than its share of other benefits, as well. It helps fight fatigue, strengthens and nourishes the heart, improves circulation, reduces blood pressure, lowers cholesterol, boosts red blood cells, stimulates metabolism, builds strength and muscle tone, enhances digestion and elimination, aids lymphatic circulation, oxygenates the body, and supports detoxification. Wowza! Plus, it can be a fun activity for kids, adults and seniors. As the song lyrics go, “Who could ask for anything more?”

Still not convinced? You will be after you read Eva Xanthopoulos’ top 10 reasons to take up rebounding……

Top 10 Rebounding Benefits

Rebounding Benefits: Top 10 Reasons to Jump like Nobody’s Watching

And all you need is a workout trampoline and your inner child to get started. That’s right. Jumping on one of those things isn’t just for kids. It’s a beneficial activity for children and adults alike, so don’t let that photo above fool you.

But what’s the difference between jumping on trampoline and rebounding? To define rebound exercise… It’s a simple aerobic workout that’s low impact and is normally performed on a rebounder (also known as a mini trampoline). There’s also a methodical way to go about it. You don’t simply jump for the sake of jumping.

Bob and I actually have two small trampolines. One in the office and one in the living room. That’s why I just had to write an article for everybody! This is by far one of the most energizing and entertaining ways to work out.

Anyway, the top 10 trampoline benefits are listed below:

1. Lymphatic Drainage Thanks to The Force… The G-Force!

This buoyant up-and-down motion utilizes the amplified G-force from gravity which means that each and every cell in your body needs to respond to the speeding-up and the slowing-down.

And it’s that very act that makes your lymphatic system happy seeing as the body moves in a vertical direction and the entire system itself runs in the same direction.

Not to mention that increased G-force equals increased lymphocyte activity, which brings me to #2:

2. Detoxifying AND Immune Boostifying

The lymph system is a transporter of countless immune cells, thus making it your immune function’s number one supporter. Getting rid of all that invisible-to-the-naked-eye gunk helps your immune system function at full capacity.

3. Happy Bones and Joints. No Impact Damage Here!

Gravity is the primary reason why rebounding works so well. But what does lack of gravity do? Well, for one thing, it causes bone density loss. Luckily, we don’t live in some space station orbiting earth, but it’s definitely something NASA has to consider.

In fact, they have astronauts rebound in order to regain bone density. Furthermore, NASA conducted a study back in 1980 that ended up supporting this so-called rebounding “magic.” Their finding? It most definitely helps re-mineralize bones.

And there’s no way I could hit the publish button if I didn’t mention how joint-friendly this wonderful exercise really is. And it all has to do with the elasticity and low-impact nature of the activity. There are no hard surfaces involved. (Your knees will thank you.) This is why, now more than ever, people are opting for trampoline-jumping instead of running on the hard cement ground.

Not to get all anecdotal on you and speaking of knees, but my right knee was in pain for the longest time and I thought it would never go back to normal. Guess what made it better? My little rebounder.

4. HUGE Digestive Tract Boost

Doctors have said this time and time again: Avoid laying down the moment after eating a meal. That’s because digestion works best when gravity gives it a helping hand. At the same time, you shouldn’t be overly exerting yourself. Rebounding is best done on an empty stomach.

Empty stomach or not, your digestive tract, much like your lymphatic system gets an undeniable boost with that up-and-down motion.

And now to bring up the taboo topics: This aerobic exercise helps with your bowel movements and helps you release gas.

In more medical terms, your intestinal muscle movement (also referred to as peristalsis) is vastly improved.

5. Rebounding for Weight Loss. Goodbye Unwanted Pounds and Cellulite!

It’s a known fact: To rebound regularly is to build stronger muscle and reduce body fat.

Fortunately, you don’t have to take my word for it. Tons of studies and extensive research has been done to prove that this benefit as well as the others listed are legitimate.

6. Oxygenation to the Max

There have been studies done on Cystic Fibrosis patients and despite their severe lung issues, their oxygenation was still able to be increased by consistently rebounding.

Whether you have normal lung function or not, this cellular exercise supports the cells of the body for supremely efficient oxygenation. Rebounding really is one of the best ways to do just that.

7. Notable Drop in Blood Glucose Levels

A 2016 study published by The Journey of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness found that a consistent mini trampoline exercise program can reduce blood glucose levels.

In a world where high glucose levels is relatively common, it’s important to do everything you can to keep those levels optimal.

8. Matters of the Heart. And Matters of Your Blood Pressure Too!

Rebounding = stronger heart = more efficient blood-pumping.

In fact, consistent rebounding tends to decrease one’s resting heart rate.

To delve a bit deeper, the up and down motion I keep on mentioning causes many of the body’s large muscle groups to contract. This in turn causes a rhythmic compression of each vein and artery.

In conclusion? Overall circulation, blood flow, and oxygenation is drastically increased which directly correlates to lowered blood pressure and a whole lot less strain on the heart muscle.

9. Overall Improvement of Balance and Coordination

According to Dr. Craig A. Maxwell, rebounding actually improves your brain’s responsiveness to the vestibular apparatus in your inner ear, thus refining your coordination and balance.

In other words, you actively engage your mind and body connection by using the inner ear canal and ocular nerves, which stimulates not only your balance and coordination, but your reaction time as well.

10. Slower Aging. The Fountain of Youth of the Exercise World?

No, you won’t stay young forever, but it certainly helps with the aging process by slowing it down. In general, exercising consistently tends to have that sort of effect.

However, rebounding effects every cell in your body; there literally isn’t a part of your body that isn’t being stimulated.

Think of it this way: stagnation = rapid aging, total body movement = slow aging.

That’s it, folks. Well, only because this was a top 10 list of rebounder exercise benefits. There are definitely a TON more.

Do you own a mini-trampoline? If not, I highly suggest you go out and buy one! They’re not all that pricey and the value you get out of them will benefit you 100-fold.

FYI, you can buy a mini-trampoline on-line or at any number of sporting goods stores in your area. Just be sure to do some research first, because some of the cheaper ones definitely don’t provide the stability, durability and spring that paying a little more will get you.
