I just finished reading part of yet another article about the devastating effect lockdowns and social distancing are having on the mental and emotional well-being of many people,….. sometimes more detrimental than the virus itself.
But great synchronicity was at work, because right after that article I received an e-mail with this Jin Shin Jyutsu hold/flow. I feel this could actually help alleviate feelings of disconnection and depression, plus what’s great about JSJ it’s so simple to practice and every hold has multiple benefits, so you always get more than you bargained for.
Hopefully you’re in a position to get real hugs on a regular basis, but if not, put this to work for you. As they say, a hug a day keeps the doctor away!

Salud, and have an inspired and inspiring holiday season!

Oh, I was so glad to find this article from Astrid at FlowsforLife.com in my inbox recently. I used to do this particular Jin Shin Jyutsu routine/flow on a regular basis, but somehow got out of the habit somewhere along the way. It was always a favorite of mine,…. it helps with so many different things, plus is easy and comfortable to do. I usually did it while lying in bed first thing in the morning, or sometimes before going to sleep at night…or when I would wake up in the middle of night, because it helped me get back to sleep.
If you want to give yourself a little break during the day, try this routine and hold any or all positions that seem pertinent at the time. And as we head into winter, at least in my part of the country, this is a great one for tuning up the body and strengthening your life force energy. Circulation, heart health, thyroid and parathyroid, mental clarity, spine, stomach, metabolism and more….Main Central’s got you covered!
PERSONAL TIP: When doing this routine, make sure you are as comfortable as possible, so you can sink into the full relaxation response Main Central will trigger in your body. Usually my muscles begin to let go and my breathing slows and deepens within a minute or two of starting this “flow.” To make myself extra comfortable, I put a pillow under my right arm to help hold it in position w/ my hand on my head and pull the covers up over it to make sure that part of my body stays warm in the winter. And I use a small Vibes Up therapy teddy bear under my left arm/elbow/wrist, depending on the point being held by my left hand/fingers. What’s cool is the bear not only supports my arm position, but also just so happens to add additional balancing/harmonizing and grounding energies to the body!Good deal!
–
In Jin Shin Jyutsu, the Main Central IS the Source of Life. This is the energy that goes DOWN the FRONT of our body and UP the BACK. Main Central feeds all of our 144,000 energy functions. I liken it to the trunk of the energetic tree.
Be comfortable
To practise Main Central get into a comfortable position. You can do the exercise sitting down, but I prefer to lie down and support my arms (especially my right arm as itās going to be in the same position for a while) with pillows and cushions. Hold each position for a few minutes each, or as long as you like! Some positions will feel so comfortable, you might spend an hour just in one hold.
There arenāt any rules ā just enjoy!
Jin Shin Jyutsu Main Central Exercise
In this exercise, the right hand will remain on top of the head until the last hold when it moves to the coccyx, and the left hand moves down the front of the body as explained.
Top Tip
You can do the whole exercise or just choose the position that feels right for you in the moment. For instance, you might want to clear the head, so you could practice just the first position for a few minutes.
Clear the head
Position 1: Place Right Hand/Fingers on Top of Head Maintain the right hand in this position during the routine through Positions 1 to 7. AND Place Left Fingers between Eyebrows The Vital Force of Total Being. Revitalizes the deep energy circulation, improves memory, dissipates senility, harmonizes the pituitary gland and the pineal gland, controls blood pressure.
Release the pelvic girdle
Position 2: Place Left Fingers on Tip of Nose Revitalizes superficial body energy circulation, releases tension in the pelvic girdle and reproductive organs.
Prevent heart attack
Position 3: Place Left Fingers on Center of Chest on the Sternum Look for the ābumpā on the sternum, and place your fingers there. Revitalizes the Thyroid and Parathyroid; helps with facial muscular problems, helps prevent heart attacks, strokes, etc. Regulates metabolism and maintains mental balance. Helps us adapt to our surroundings and situations.
Help the immune system
Position 4: Place Left Fingers between Breasts on Sternum Revitalizes the immune system for the prevention of cancer, AIDS, etc. Assists in child growth and mental development. Governs reproduction, generative and regenerative functions. Relieves nausea and anxiety. Assists with breathing.
Support the adrenals
Position 5: Place Left Fingers at Base of Sternum The Controller of Human Destiny. Revitalizes the energy path of the spleen and the adrenals, assists in the secretion of digestive juices and hormones. Gateway to the solar energy system revitalizing the nervous system. Prevents diabetes.
Tone the abdominal muscles
Position 6: Place Left Fingers about an Inch above the Belly Button Revitalizes abdominal muscle tone and intestinal function.
Strengthen the spine
Position 7: Place Left Fingers on Pubic Bone Revitalizes the descending energy (down the front). Helps strengthen the spine.
Aid circulation in the legs and feet
Position 8: Right Hand moves from Top of Head to Base of Spine (Coccyx). Revitalizes the ascending energy (up the back), helps circulation in the legs and feet, helps cold and clammy hands and feet. Alleviates menstrual cramps.

Several years ago I featured an article by Dr. Mercola on theĀ Nitric Oxide Dump routineĀ and it has become one of the more frequently viewed posts, so I thought it might be of interest to a number of you to know about this simplified version I just found out about recently that Iām really enjoying, because itās so easy to learn and quick to do, plus gives your body a workout where you end up feeling pooped and energized at the same time. HA!
And while youāre catching your breath from one of your 4-minute workout sessions, you can do the JSJ routine for cleaning, tightening and rejuvenating the skin. So in less than half an hour you can really have a positive impact on your overall health and well-being. How does it get any better than that?!
4-MINUTE AT-HOME WORKOUT FOR WHEN YOU CANāT GET TO THE GYM OR NEED A LIFT
For the past two months, Iāve been testing a four-minute workout routine that promised to give the same benefits as if Iād worked out in the gym for an hour. Created by Dr. Zach Bush, itās a new version of high-intensity interval training (HIIT). The three-to-four-minute workout consists of four basic exercises ā squats, tin soldiers, snow angel and military pressā which work all 16 major muscle groups. It takes about 4 minutes and I try to do it 3 times a day; on very busy āout-and-aboutā days, as little as once or twice.
Itās designed to stimulate the release of nitric oxide, which is actually a soluble gas and free radical stored in the lining or endothelium of your blood vessels that can catalyze and promote health.
The results have been impressive. Iāve gotten quite a bit leaner, developed muscle and strength, and lost about 5 pounds, which Iāve kept off easily (no mean feat for my aging self). Ā Normally, if I go a day without doing my usual 45-minute exercise routine, I start to gain weight; Ā if I canāt do my regular exercise, I can easily do this routine at home.
The simple routine is easy to do during my day and has proven an energizing break while working; I feel the effect immediately. Itās best to wait at least two hours between sessions, to allow the body to synthesize nitric oxide for subsequent release. ( I put a little sign up on my fridge, and sometimes set a timer, to remind myself to do a session). And for best results, I breath through the nose, not mouth. Over time, as the sequence has gotten easier to do, Iāve added more reps to keep myself challenged.
You can read all about how it worksĀ here at Mercola.com.Ā I recommend following Zach Bushās video at the top of the page as Dr. Mercola, whose info can be excellent, often take things to an extreme. I find his version pushes too hard.
Note: Wary of squats and of pushing too hard, too fast, I took the workout slowly the first few times, listening to how my body was handling it, and gradually increasing the intensity. Listen, listen, listen to your bodyā¦
UPDATE 1/11/22: NeedĀ further motivation to give the routine a try? Check out this 2 min. video of an interview where Dr Bush is asked about this quick, yet highly effective work-out…
BTW, Dr Zach Bush is one of the most knowledgeable, well-spoken natural health advocates Iāve come across and has given some great interviews on GMOs, andĀ glyphosateĀ (among other things) and how they are tied to inflammation, leaky gut, autism and so much more. Theyāre actually worse for our health than I ever imagined. I highly recommend checking out his website and education resources. Hereās just one of the interviews Iāve watched:Ā https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=5&v=jWgnkgYtqnw&feature=emb_logo
And now on to the facelift! Here’s an easy to learn Jin Shin Jyutsu flow/hold from Astrid at FlowsForLife.com that has multiple benefits and uses, including rejuvenating the skin ….
Regenerating for the Deep Skin
Imagine if youĀ hadĀ your own personal ‘plastic surgeon’?
Well, I am here to tell you that you have a special energy function that helpsĀ clean, rejuvenate and tighten the skin.
This is Jin Shin Jyutsu for a facelift!
There is a special energy function that helps regulate the temperature in your body. It also relaxes the muscles in the body, and circulates to clean, purify, and regenerate the deep skin.
All you have to ādoā is palm the backs of your calf muscles on the lower legs daily for a magic effect!
I have a friend who practices this hold every morning because she wakes up feeling a bit tight and stiff . She was delighted when I said to her: āNo wonder you look so vibrant and so much younger than your age.ā
Hold 20 minutes every day for two weeks, and you might find that your friends start wondering what youāve been doing because you look so good.
Sunburn gone!
A few years ago, I went to the beach on a sunny day. I came home and realized I was quite sunburned. My skin felt tight and very uncomfortable. I decided to put this exercise to the test.
Instead of getting lots of lotions to put on my skin, I practiced the Jin Shin Jyutsu self help exercise below.
I was amazed that, after a few minutes, all the discomfort just melted away. Thereās no other way to describe it. Also, the redness and heat dissipated, and I didnāt peel. It was quite extraordinary.
Hot hot hot!
This Jin Shin Jyutsu exercise is also great if your body gets really hot. Because this special energy travels up and down the whole body, it helps cool it! So we all have a natural built-in air-conditioning system. Itās so clever.
Jin Shin Jyutsu for a facelift
Cross your arms. Place the palm of your RIGHT hand (with fingers facing down towards your feet) on the LEFT calf (the fleshy part at the back of theĀ leg below the knee). Do the same for the palm of the LEFT hand on the RIGHT calf.
If youāre working on someone else, lie them face up and stand at their feet facing their head.
Then place your LEFT palm on their RIGHT calf muscles, fingers facing up towards their head, and your RIGHT palm on their LEFT calf, fingers facing up towards their head.
So when you work on yourself, you cross your arms. When you work on someone else, you donāt.
Note: if you find it difficult to hold this position for a while, try lying on your side. Or just shorten the sessions but do them more often. The time I share with you is a guide. However, the more you do, the more effective this exercise will be!
Simple and effective. But donāt take my word for it. As Mary Burmeister says, āBe your own testimony.ā

Here are a couple of good Jin Shin Jyutsu holds/flows to know about from Astrid at FlowsForLife.com. Both of these are great ones to keep in mind, especially during and after the holiday season, since that’s a time we are prone to over-eat and over-do in general. How fascinating that you can hold one cheek to lose weight, the other if you want to gain, and both to allow the body to adjust to what it needs. How cool is that?!
Every year when Spring is around the corner, I feel the need to shed those few extra pounds I put on in Winter. In this article, I share how to lose weight with some simple Jin Shin Jyutsu exercises.
Two āenergy sitesā that help us lose weight
We have two different āenergy sitesā on the body (four if you count the right and left sides) that help with weight loss. These energy sites are officially called Safety Energy Locks, or SELs for short. They are spheres of concentrated energy on the body about the size of a tennis ball.
SEL 21: Release mental and physical weight
Safety Energy Lock number 21 is found right under the cheekbone on the face. Place the right fingers on the RIGHT side of the face just under the cheekbone for weight LOSS. Place the left fingers on the LEFT side of face just under the cheekbone for weight GAIN. If you forget which side is which, hold both sides and the body will adjust itself to what it needs. It will! The body is very clever that way.
Placing the hands on either cheekbone helps weight balance, helps relieve MENTAL STRESS and āfrees us from mental bondageā. So when I feel mentally stressed, I use this self help hold to calm my mind and calm me down.
This self help hold is also really good to relieve DIZZINESS.
SEL 25: Regenerate all body functions
Safety Energy Lock number 25 is found on the right and leftĀ sitting bones.
Sit on your hands (with the palms up against the body) at least 20 minutes a day to stay fit, to take lactic acid out of the muscles after exercising, and to lose volume from the hip and thigh area. Because SEL 25 is all about quietly regenerating all the body functions it is very helpful to keep the body fit and toned, as well as increasing alertness and mental clarity.
If you want more energy, sit on your hands!
Both these exercises are easy to do and can even be practiced while sitting watching TV, so there’s no excuse not to put them to use. š For a more meditative experience, sit or lie quietly with your eyes closed.
And here’s a short article I found interesting. I’m not very knowledgeable about the Keto Diet, but I know many people are into it. And suddenly everything on the grocery shelves is being labeled keto-friendly, so I thought this research might be good for people to know about….
Ā
Keto diet reverses early signs of diabetesābut only for the first week….
(by Bryan HubbardĀ ) The high-fats, low-carbs ketogenic diet could be good for youābut only for one week. After that, it starts to have negative health effects, a new study suggests.
The keto diet is a dramatic way to kick-start the immune system and reverse signs of diabetes and inflammation. And it delivers all those positive health effects in just seven days.
But continue the diet any longer than that and the body starts storing the fat it’s supposed to be burning, say researchers from Yale School of Medicine.
The diet tricks the body into thinking it’s in starvation mode by dramatically reducing carb consumption; as a consequence, it starts burning fats instead of carbs and this triggers the release of chemicals called ketone bodies as an alternative source of fuel. This process also releases immune T-cells, and these reverse signs of diabetes and inflammation, and also improve the body’s overall metabolism. After a week on the diet, blood sugar levels and general inflammation reduce.
But these health benefits go into reverse after around a week on the diet and the body begins to store the large amounts of fats we’re consuming.
With one in three Americans pre-diabeticātheir blood sugar levels are already too highāanything that can reverse that should be welcome. And even better, it can be done on just a seven-day diet. “Who wants to be on a diet forever, anyway?” said researcher Vishwa Deep Dixit.

Oh, I’m so excited to give this new (to me) Jin Shin Jyutsu hold/flow a try. Like the other ones I’ve posted about here, it’s simple, easy to do and helps with multiple things (eyes, neck & shoulder pain, detoxification, osteoporosis, etc)….
A pain in the neck
Using Jin Shin Jyutsu, the neck and shoulders can be released relatively quickly.
Itās about how the energy travels in the body
This is because we all have an energy pathway that crosses the shoulders and hips, traveling up and down the arms into the middle fingers and also traveling up and down the legs doing kind of a “loop de loop” all over the body. This energy also goes round the head and around the chest.
This simple self help exercise does so much
This little gem of a self help hold that I learned and often use, does many things as it
* eases a stiff neck and shoulder pain
* alleviates pain down the arm, in the elbow, in the hand & fingers
* detoxes the body
* helps protect the body against osteoporosis
* eases aches and pains in the body (also fibromyalgia)
* lubricates the joints (so good for knee pain, elbow pain)
* and even helps with all arthritic “projects”/problems
* helps the skeletal structure
* helps the eyes
A gem of a hold
Place left hand over left shoulder and right hand on the left elbow crease. For the other side, place right hand over right shoulder and left hand on the right elbow crease.
Do this self help hold every day for a few minutes to ācleanā, and within a short time youāll definitely notice a difference in your neck and shoulders.
If you are working on a project/issue like fibromyalgia, then hold for a minimum of 20 minutes each side or until there is relief.
If you find it difficult to do the side that is tense or uncomfortable, start by working on the other side. So, say the right shoulder and neck hurts. Do the exercise on the left side until you can comfortably do the hold on the right side.
This is one of my absolute favorite holds because it is so simple, yet helps so much! I have used it Ā many times on myself and in my practice.
In this video, Astrid explains the exercise (actual instructions about the hold start around the 3 minute mark)
Also, I just found out yesterday that Deepak Chopra and Oprah Winfrey (or “Deeprah” as I like to refer to them :-)) are offering another one of their free 21-day meditation series, and this time the topic/focus is Perfect Health. I always enjoy their series and this one is sure to be filled with lots of wisdom about how to create and maintain conscious well-being. Plus, meditating in and of itself is a great health aid, and Deepak’s voice is so soothing and relaxing to listen to, so I’m definitely looking forward to Feb 3rd . š

I have been out of the blogging loop for awhile now due to A) an unexpected move (still in the process of getting settled), followed by B) an amazing Mastering Alchemy conference in Atlanta, and then C) some kind of extreme physical yuck w/ a temp of over 103° that I think was at least partially triggered by all the shifts and changes set in motion by A and B. š¦ But I did lots of neti potting, used the Kick-Ass Flu Remedy protocol, elderberry syrup, colloidal silver, and a few other odds and ends and actually bounced back quicker than anticipated. YEA!
Anyway, I’m glad to finally get around to posting this information about Prime Mover that’s been in my draft section for ages. If you weren’t around when I featured an article I wrote for Sivana Spirit about Jin Shin Jyutsu, one of my absolute favorite self-help health tools, then be sure and read that before this one, so you’ll have some background appreciation of this simple, but effective form of energy medicine.
The following article is by JSJ teacher and practitioner Astrid Kauffmann at Flows For Life and focuses on one of the most important, yet simple, flows/holds you can use….
CHANGE YOUR LIFE WITH PRIME MOVER
The Insides of the Knees is the One!
The mover and shaker in Jin Shin Jyutsu is the energy site that is found on the inside of the knees: the energy site that is Number One, as in SEL(Safety Energy Lock) #1.
This one is truly the Power of One! People have told me that when they held their ones for an hour every day, their lives changed!
If you feel stuck
So, if you feel stuck, start holding the inside of your knees. It doesnāt matter whether you cross your arms or not ā do whatever feels comfortable for you. Hold for at least 20 minutes at a time if you can.
Itās wonderful that Jin Shin Jyutsu can help us move the energy so that we can get āunstuckā and open up to receive the abundance that life offers.
SEL #1 is called the āThe Prime Moverā
It is found on the inside (medial side) of the knees. It connects extreme heights with extreme depths and harmonizes us from head to toe because it helps the descending energy (which moves down the front) and the ascending energy (which moves up the back).
Itās ALL about harmonizing the breath; as we exhale, we let go of the old (dirt, dust, grease and grime) and as we inhale, we let in the new (pure energy and abundance).
Also great for emergencies
Holding this energy site is also very helpful in emergencies like breathing difficulties, stomach cramps, menstrual cramps, nausea, vomiting, shock, etc.
I remember years ago I had a situation when I ate something that really did not agree with me and, boy, did my stomach complain. I had severe stomach cramps. They were so bad they took my breath away (literally!).
I was in the middle of nowhere, so I quickly placed my hands on the insides of my knees and held on for dear life.
After a couple of minutes I could feel things starting to ease, although I was still in pain. I held on and waited. Ten minutes in, the pain disappeared and I was back to normal.
And a story involving Prime Mover from Willow Walker, the lady I first learned Jin Shin Jyutsu from….
“Earlier this year, I attended a three-day, 5 Rhythm Dance Workshop. Two hours into the second day, my right knee completely locked up, and would not bend without extreme effort and pain. I tried to shake it out, and dance my way through it. But instead of getting better, it just got worse.
I thought, āHow am I going to dance the rest of today and tomorrow when my knee wonāt bend?!?ā Even worse than the sharp pain, was the thought that I would have to stop dancing for the weekend. Anyone who knows me well knows that this is a serious situation.
I sat down on the side of the room to collect myself, and remembered Jin Shin Jyutsu! I started using self-help flows to specifically address the injury first, then the knee in general, and then the specific āSafety Energy Lockā (SEL) where the pain was located. I wanted to create movement and flow around and through my knee, so the SEL could safely open again. I spent about 15 minutes holding places on my body and leg lightly with my hands as I waited for my knee to return to its normal state; the ability to support continual, creative movement on the dance floor.
A SEL acts like a fuse for our electrical body, switching āclosedā when it gets overloaded. When that happens, our energy flow may accumulate there, manifesting as physical pain. Boy, did it ever!
Out of the 26 SELs on each side of our body, the very first one can be found on the inside of the knee. It is known as āThe Prime Mover.ā And no wonder. You literally cannot move forward without it!
The music ended about the time I finished my self-help flows, and we were invited to dance/move across the floor, propelled by our hips. My knee was still very stiff, and hurt at the slightest movement, and at first I wasnāt sure I could stand the pain. But the alternative of not dancing the rest of the weekend was just not an option. So, I went for it, trusting Jin Shin Jyutsu to open the flow of energy in my body and restore harmony once again.
After crossing the floor once, my knee felt a little less stiff and painful. By the end of the exercise 30 minutes later, my knee was back to normal; 100% pain free with complete range of motion. It continued to feel great, and provided eight more hours of ecstatic dancing without complaint that weekend.
Iāve been holding my 1’s more often this past month myself, and the shifts so far have been absolutely amazing. Now that I have experienced what the Prime Mover can do both within and around my body, I plan to continue holding my 1’s as often as possible, regardless of whether my knee is injured or not.
Anyone and everyone can use Jin Shin Jyutsu to help themselves and others. In fact, you already do and you just donāt know it. Our bodies know what to do when we just let them be.
I feel so blessed to know about this resource that allows us to help ourselves with nothing more than our hands, our intention to help ourselves, awareness of our energetic body, and a little bit of time. So simple. So beautiful.” — Willow
There’s also a story told of a man who was on the verge of total financial collapse, standing to lose everything if his company’s business didnāt soon turn around. His wife knew someone who knew Mary Burmeister, the woman who brought Jin Shin JyutsuĀ® to the west. When Mary was asked how he could help himself, she recommended that he hold the inside of his knees for an hour each day every day for a month. And so he did. During those 30 days, things shifted dramatically in every part of his life, and he achieved his greatest financial success to date!
And here’s a short little video I found that gives you a quick tutorial on the primary finger holds mentioned in my previous post on JSJ, as well as some interesting input about the Prime Mover/SEL # 1, including how it can be used in place of the Heimlich maneuver in certain situations:
Also, Astrid offers a free download of a 15-page booklet on JSJ on her website. You can check it out here.
10/26/19 UPDATE: A friend read this post and asked me exactly where SEL #1 was, because she wanted to be sure she was holding the right place. I just checked my book The Touch of Healing, which I highly recommend for people interested in JSJ; it’s what we used as a reference for the JSJ class I took a number of years ago. Anyway, I thought I would share the info that I gave her, in case anyone else had the same question.
The book says “SEL #1/Prime Mover is located on the inside of each knee, right at the bulge, where the thigh and shinbone connect. It unifies the descending energy (which travels down the front of the body) w/ the ascending energy (which flows up the back) and thus harmonizes from head to toe. SEL #1 is considered ‘the prime mover’ connecting extreme heights w/ extreme depths. It helps all forms of abdominal distress (bloating, discomfort, etc) and headaches. It also promotes deeper and easier breathing.”
The book also mentions “There is no need to be overly concerned w/ precision. There is a 3 inch effective radius around every SEL. In time, as one’s awareness grows, one may learn to ‘bull’s-eye,’ but this is not essential.”

I have been meaning to do a post on Jin Shin Jyutsu for over a year now…..ever since I first started studying and practicing this wonderfully simple, yet complex, Art of Learning To Know (Help) Yourself. I finally got around to doing it when I recently had the opportunity to be a guest writer for the SivanaSpirit.com blog.Ā Here’s my article that they featured….
Jin Shin Jyutsu:The Simplicity of using hands to heal
About a year ago I was reading a blog post that happened to mention Jin Shin Jyutsu.
I wasnāt sure if Iād even heard of it before, but assumed it was something along the lines of Jujitsu or QiGong.
I had already studied and practiced more than my share of energy processes and healing modalities and wasnāt looking to get involved in something new, but still was curious to find out what Jin Shin Jyutsu actually was.
When I got an e-mail a week later saying there was a new Meet-Up group focused on Jin Shin Jyutsu forming in my area, I thought āTalk about synchronicity and serendipity!ā
So I signed up to attend, with the thought of going just a time or two to satisfy my curiosity.
I Was Hooked From The Get-go!
Well, here it is more than a year later and Iām still learning and practicing Jin Shin Jyutsu, and no one is more surprised by this than me.
The fact is, I was hooked from the get-go and itās my favorite energy process of anything Iāve come across so far.
It turns out Jin Shin Jyutsu, or JSJ as I now call it, originated in Japan like Jujitsu, but is NOT a form of martial arts.
Instead, it is a process that works to keep the physical bodyās energy pathways clear and the energy balanced and flowing.
It works similar to acupuncture, but without needles, pressure or manipulation.
JSJ is empowering to use, and highly regenerative because it speeds up the bodyās innate ability to heal and regenerate itself.
It boosts the immune system, relieves stress and pain, and works to restore and maintain energy levels.
It also helps balance and harmonize our thoughts and emotions, and strengthen our connection with Source energy and āhigherā consciousness.
Wow, how cool is that?!
Whatās Great About JSJ
Whatās great about JSJ is itās interesting and fun, and simpleā¦.yet complex.
You can start using it within minutes of learning some of the basics, but could also spend the rest of your life, if youāre so inclined, delving into the depths of all it has to offer.
I love the fact that many of the holds or processes (also referred to as āflowsā) are very easy and quick to learn, so you can begin using them on yourself right away to improve all aspects of your health and well-being.
Plus, you donāt have to adhere to any particular system of thought, it doesnāt interfere with other modalities you may be practicing, and it doesnāt require any special equipment, physical pressure, or massage know-how.
You can use it anytime, anywhere, and it works through clothing, so you can remain fully clothed while doing it.
Jin Shin Jyutsu is all about keeping the bodyās energy flowing and in balanceā¦..it can help you feel more energized, but also assist you with falling asleep if/when thatās your goal.
Here in the West, JSJ is referred to as āThe Art of Learning To Know (Help) Yourself,ā and for me it has really lived up to that title.
By practicing JSJ I have not only learned energy processes that relax and rejuvenate my body better than anything else Iāve tried, but have also come to know (ah, thereās that word!) myself and appreciate my body and the innate power it holds more than ever before.
Itās really nice to realize that my physical body contains an inexhaustible supply of energy, and that just by helping insure that energy is nurtured and given a chance to move and flow, my health and whole life benefit in a variety of ways.
The Hands Have It
With Jin Shin Jyutsu your hands become these wonderful tools for ājumper-cablingā the energy circuits of the body, and just by knowing where and how to place your hands you can release tensions and energy blockages which are the causes of various symptoms and dis-ease.
When one or more of the energy pathways in the body become blocked, this damming effect can lead to discomfort or even pain.
If this energy stagnation goes unaddressed for too long, it ends up not only disrupting the local area of the body, but will continue and eventually dis-harmonize the entire path or paths of energy flow.
Fortunately, JSJ is an easy to use self-help tool for ensuring the pathways remain clear and the energy is free-flowing and harmonized.Ā And youāre working with the bodyās own inexhaustible supply of energy, so youāre not having to deal with, or pull in, outside energy.
Mary Burmeister, the woman responsible for bringing JSJ to the US from Japan, said that the only reason we really get tired is mismanagement of the boundless energy source our body contains.Ā And that if we attuned to the body and did what we could through JSJ to insure that our energy is free-flowing and unobstructed, we would never get tired.
Itās as Simple as 1-2-3!
Learning to use some of the holds or flows in Jin Shin Jyutsu is as simple as 1-2-3.
Well, actually sometime itās as simple as 1, because a key hold or hand position that can help with all sorts of things involves simply grasping/holding (ājumper-cablingā) the thumb of one hand with the other hand.
Talk about simple!
Did you know that by doing this one little thing you can help balance and harmonize the stomach and the spleen, which is the bodyās source of āsolar energyā and serves to energize all the other organs?!
Holding your thumb also opens up channels for you to receive nourishment on an inner and outer level, not only physically, but also mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
And if you need help falling asleep at nightā¦.or getting back to sleep when you wake up too earlyā¦.just grab your thumb.
This hold also helps dissipate worry, nervousness, stress and tension, so itās a real godsend of a self-help tool for this day and age!Ā Maybe this is why babies innately know to suck their thumbs to bring them a sense of security and peace.
The Benefit of Each Finger
I just mentioned some of the many benefits of holding your thumb(s), but the other digits are no slouches either!
Youāll probably be surprised to learn that our ten fingers are the keys to 144,000 energy functions, and by holding each finger or thumb for just a few minutes a day you help clean and regenerate over 14,000 functions of the body at a time!
What?! I find that totally amazing!
Hold each for 3 to 5 minutes daily and your whole body will experience a wonderful calming, rejuvenating, balancing and harmonizing effect-Ā and itās cumulative, so the more often you practice JSJ, the more benefit you receive.
The index finger has to do with functions of the muscular and digestive systems, the kidneys, and the bladder; it can help with teeth and gum issues, backaches, and addictions of any kind, as well as with reducing fear, frustration and mental confusion.
So if you need support with any of those issues, grab that finger and hold!
And the middle finger relates to the blood, liver and gall bladder, and feelings of anger, irritability, indecision or frustration.Ā It can also help with eye/vision problems and relieve fatigue.
So hold this finger to work on any of these organs/areas of the body and particular mental and emotional stresses.
The ring finger relates to the lungs and respiratory system, as well as the large intestine, and holding this particular finger works to rejuvenate and bring balance to those parts of the body.
It can also be used for ringing in the ears, excess mucus, and to relieve feelings of sadness, grief, negativity, and being stuck or having trouble with letting go.
And last but not least, the little finger, or āpinky,ā is connected with functions of the skeletal system, as well as the heart and small intestine, and can be used to address bone or nerve problems and heart conditions.
On a mental and emotional level, the little finger relates to trying too hard or overdoing, and can help with feelings of insecurity and low self-esteem.
Everyone Should Try It!
Thereās actually a lot more to each finger and using Jin Shin Jyutsu than what Iāve mentioned here, and thatās one of the things I love about it.
You can learn just a few basics, like holding your fingers and thumbs, and gain a lot of benefit; at the same time, you could study and practice JSJ for years and always feel there is more to learn and understand.
Iām so enamored with Jin Shin Jyutsu that I think everyone should know about it and give it a try.Ā And I look forward to sharing several more easy to learn JSJ processes in a future post, including my favorite flow that is sooo relaxing and works to balance all the energy in the body.
You can do it while lying comfortably in bed, and even fall asleep during the process and still have it be effective.Ā HA!Ā Maybe Jin Shin Jyutsu should be called the lazy (wo)manās āart of learning to know (help) yourself.ā
I mean really, how many things do you know of where you simply hold a fingerā¦and can even fall asleep in the process, and Ā are still helping everything from assuaging fear to expanding cosmic consciousness?!!
So if youād like to know more about this gentle, yet profound, art and energy process, stay tuned for my next post on JSJ.Ā I also recommend reading The Touch of Healing by Alice Burmeister and checking out Astrid Kauffmanās Flows For Life site.
