Out of hundreds of exercises and protocols in the Eden Method, this is Donna’s favorite exercise!It can help with a wide range of problems, including confusion, obsessiveness, depression, and excessive anger. But, it is also great for students who are wanting to retain information from classes!
When I was in theater, I used the Wayne Cook Posture to remember my script. There I was, standing in the wings on the sides of the stage, ready to go into the spotlight and I was doing the Wayne Cook Posture. Before too long, the entire cast would be using this powerful technique to remember and clearly deliver their lines.
If you have decreased mobility in your legs, are confined to a bed, or you are in a wheelchair, this exercise is a variation on the standard Wayne Cook Posture but brings the same results. Click here for the variation.

This morning I received a newsletter from Ross Bridgeford at LiveEnergized.com with the following recipe to help detoxify the liver, and I happened to think that right now might be a great time for many people to do a full-out cleanse, since you need a couple of days when you can stay home and lay low and that’s actually the norm right now. Directions:
Squeeze the juice of the grapefruit and lemon into a blender

Fight Colds, Flu and Other Viruses with Coconut Oil and Ginger

Oh, I’m so excited to give this new (to me) Jin Shin Jyutsu hold/flow a try. Like the other ones I’ve posted about here, it’s simple, easy to do and helps with multiple things (eyes, neck & shoulder pain, detoxification, osteoporosis, etc)….
A pain in the neck
Using Jin Shin Jyutsu, the neck and shoulders can be released relatively quickly.
It’s about how the energy travels in the body
This is because we all have an energy pathway that crosses the shoulders and hips, traveling up and down the arms into the middle fingers and also traveling up and down the legs doing kind of a “loop de loop” all over the body. This energy also goes round the head and around the chest.
This simple self help exercise does so much
This little gem of a self help hold that I learned and often use, does many things as it
* eases a stiff neck and shoulder pain
* alleviates pain down the arm, in the elbow, in the hand & fingers
* detoxes the body
* helps protect the body against osteoporosis
* eases aches and pains in the body (also fibromyalgia)
* lubricates the joints (so good for knee pain, elbow pain)
* and even helps with all arthritic “projects”/problems
* helps the skeletal structure
* helps the eyes
A gem of a hold
Place left hand over left shoulder and right hand on the left elbow crease. For the other side, place right hand over right shoulder and left hand on the right elbow crease.
Do this self help hold every day for a few minutes to ‘clean’, and within a short time you’ll definitely notice a difference in your neck and shoulders.
If you are working on a project/issue like fibromyalgia, then hold for a minimum of 20 minutes each side or until there is relief.
If you find it difficult to do the side that is tense or uncomfortable, start by working on the other side. So, say the right shoulder and neck hurts. Do the exercise on the left side until you can comfortably do the hold on the right side.
This is one of my absolute favorite holds because it is so simple, yet helps so much! I have used it many times on myself and in my practice.

Also, I just found out yesterday that Deepak Chopra and Oprah Winfrey (or “Deeprah” as I like to refer to them :-)) are offering another one of their free 21-day meditation series, and this time the topic/focus is Perfect Health. After posting about Prime Mover, a key Jin Shin Jyutsu hold/flow, a reader asked me to share more processes she could put into practice, so this is response to her request…..
JIN SHIN JYUTSU TO LIFT DEPRESSION & FEELING FEARFUL
Feeling fear sometimes is a natural part of our human ‘beingness’. When we become STUCK in FEAR it it can give way to deeper issues such as depression, despair and powerlessness. The good news is that there are some simple Jin Shin Jyutsu exercises to harmonise fear and lift depression.
However, you don’t need to be in a state of depression to feel the benefits, as this helps everything, on all levels!
Hold the Index Finger
If you suffer from fear and anxiety, then holding the index finger can be really helpful. The Attitude of FEAR relates to the energies of the index finger. FEAR cuts us off from our FLOW. When we are in the flow, we are in harmony – there are no blockages which can cause an array of medical conditions.
When we don’t let go, we don’t allow the flow. The opposite of fear is flow. Holding index fingers gets you back in the flow.
Furthermore Mary Burmeister says: “The index fingers, when not in harmony, are the source of all LACKS.
LACK of: perception, balance of thinking, energy, health, and all material things, begin to cause FEAR (False Evidence Appearing Real).”
I find Mary’s words so profound. Believe me, I am constantly in awe of these words as I experience the POWER of holding my index fingers.
Marvelous self help
Holding the index finger is a rather marvelous self help exercise. It is simple but so dynamic.
Add the Ring Toe (4th Toe)
But there is more good news! In Day 3 of the Self Help Classes, we learn that fingers and toes are connected. So we can use fingers and toes together to help us in very dynamic ways!
Holding the Ring Toes by themselves helps the following energy functions: liver, gallbladder, spleen, pancreas, diaphragm.
Dynamic Duo: Index Fingers and Ring Toes
Holding the Index Fingers and Ring Toes helps all the circulatory functions in the body helping the FLOW. Do this exercise regularly (every day) to harmonize fear and lift the feeling of depression.
Left Side:
Wrap your right hand around the left index finger
Hold for 5-10 minutes or more, then
With your left hand hold the left ring toe (with position of the feet in image, place thumb on the top and rest of fingers on the bottom side of toe)
Hold for 5-10 minutes or more
(if you can reach both left and right ring toes, then at the same time hold the right ring toe)
Right Side:
Wrap your right hand around the left index finger
With your left hand hold the left ring toe
(if you can reach both left and right ring toes, then at the same time hold the right ring toe)
Note: If you can, lie on your back and cross your legs so you can grab your ring toes more easily. If you find grabbing the ring toes difficult in whatever position, then get someone else to hold your ring toes for you while you hold your index fingers. Maybe you can bribe your children or grandchildren to do this for you.

Pre Menstrual Syndrome or PMS as it is commonly known can come on a day or two before menstruation. It can cause sudden cramping in the pelvic area which is very uncomfortable and painful, to say the least.
I know first hand how painful it is!
The pain was excruciating
One day as I drove along on my own, a sudden and excruciating cramp came on. Luckily, it happened just as I stopped at a red traffic light. Of course, I didn’t have much time, so I had to think fast! What could I do to move this on?
My instinct (inner wisdom) told me to ‘sandwich’ my pelvis.
An astonishing result
Imagine my astonishment when, within seconds, the pain and cramp subsided! By the time the light turned green again, the cramp, the pain and the discomfort had all completely DISAPPEARED.
Better still, I’ve never had cramps like that again.
Not just for women!
The self help hold will also benefit men, as it keeps the energy flowing properly through the pelvic area, it supports especially the prostate.
Why does this work?
This Jin Shin Jyutsu self help hold is really simple and effective (have I said that before?) because it releases congested/stuck energy in the pelvic area.
When energy gets stuck there can be pain and discomfort. But it’s not only in the pelvic area; one may also feel heavy or uncomfortable in the legs.
Basically, the energy flow down the legs is constricted, so this is also a great hold to help with poor circulation, cold feet and to relieve restless legs.
Self help exercise to clear the pelvic area
So to get the energy flowing properly, we can help clear the area as follows:
Place the left hand on the pubic bone. This clears the descending energy down the front.
Place the right hand with the palm side on the base of the spine as far down as possible near the coccyx. If it’s uncomfortable doing it that way you can also turn your hand around so the back of the hand is on the base of the spine.

I have been out of the blogging loop for awhile now due to A) an unexpected move (still in the process of getting settled), followed by B) an amazing Mastering Alchemy conference in Atlanta, and then C) some kind of extreme physical yuck w/ a temp of over 103° that I think was at least partially triggered by all the shifts and changes set in motion by A and B. 😦 But I did lots of neti potting, used the Kick-Ass Flu Remedy protocol, elderberry syrup, colloidal silver, and a few other odds and ends and actually bounced back quicker than anticipated. YEA!
Anyway, I’m glad to finally get around to posting this information about Prime Mover that’s been in my draft section for ages. If you weren’t around when I featured an article I wrote for Sivana Spirit about Jin Shin Jyutsu, one of my absolute favorite self-help health tools, then be sure and read that before this one, so you’ll have some background appreciation of this simple, but effective form of energy medicine.

The Insides of the Knees is the One!
The mover and shaker in Jin Shin Jyutsu is the energy site that is found on the inside of the knees: the energy site that is Number One, as in SEL(Safety Energy Lock) #1.
This one is truly the Power of One! People have told me that when they held their ones for an hour every day, their lives changed!
If you feel stuck
So, if you feel stuck, start holding the inside of your knees. It doesn’t matter whether you cross your arms or not – do whatever feels comfortable for you. Hold for at least 20 minutes at a time if you can.
It’s wonderful that Jin Shin Jyutsu can help us move the energy so that we can get ‘unstuck’ and open up to receive the abundance that life offers.
SEL #1 is called the ‘The Prime Mover’
It is found on the inside (medial side) of the knees. It connects extreme heights with extreme depths and harmonizes us from head to toe because it helps the descending energy (which moves down the front) and the ascending energy (which moves up the back).
It’s ALL about harmonizing the breath; as we exhale, we let go of the old (dirt, dust, grease and grime) and as we inhale, we let in the new (pure energy and abundance).
Also great for emergencies
Holding this energy site is also very helpful in emergencies like breathing difficulties, stomach cramps, menstrual cramps, nausea, vomiting, shock, etc.
I remember years ago I had a situation when I ate something that really did not agree with me and,boy, did my stomach complain. I had severe stomach cramps. They were so bad they took my breath away (literally!).
I was in the middle of nowhere, so I quickly placed my hands on the insides of my knees and held on for dear life.
After a couple of minutes I could feel things starting to ease, although I was still in pain. I held on and waited. Ten minutes in, the pain disappeared and I was back to normal.
And a story involving Prime Mover from Willow Walker, the lady I first learned Jin Shin Jyutsu from….
“Earlier this year, I attended a three-day, 5 Rhythm Dance Workshop. Two hours into the second day, my right knee completely locked up, and would not bend without extreme effort and pain. I tried to shake it out, and dance my way through it. But instead of getting better, it just got worse.
I thought, “How am I going to dance the rest of today and tomorrow when my knee won’t bend?!?” Even worse than the sharp pain, was the thought that I would have to stop dancing for the weekend. Anyone who knows me well knows that this is a serious situation.
I sat down on the side of the room to collect myself, and remembered Jin Shin Jyutsu! I started using self-help flows to specifically address the injury first, then the knee in general, and then the specific “Safety Energy Lock” (SEL) where the pain was located. I wanted to create movement and flow around and through my knee, so the SEL could safely open again. I spent about 15 minutes holding places on my body and leg lightly with my hands as I waited for my knee to return to its normal state; the ability to support continual, creative movement on the dance floor.
A SEL acts like a fuse for our electrical body, switching “closed” when it gets overloaded. When that happens, our energy flow may accumulate there, manifesting as physical pain. Boy, did it ever!
Out of the 26 SELs on each side of our body, the very first one can be found on the inside of the knee. It is known as “The Prime Mover.” And no wonder. You literally cannot move forward without it!
The music ended about the time I finished my self-help flows, and we were invited to dance/move across the floor, propelled by our hips. My knee was still very stiff, and hurt at the slightest movement, and at first I wasn’t sure I could stand the pain. But the alternative of not dancing the rest of the weekend was just not an option. So, I went for it, trusting Jin Shin Jyutsu to open the flow of energy in my body and restore harmony once again.
After crossing the floor once, my knee felt a little less stiff and painful. By the end of the exercise 30 minutes later, my knee was back to normal; 100% pain free with complete range of motion. It continued to feel great, and provided eight more hours of ecstatic dancing without complaint that weekend.
I’ve been holding my 1’s more often this past month myself, and the shifts so far have been absolutely amazing. Now that I have experienced what the Prime Mover can do both within and around my body, I plan to continue holding my 1’s as often as possible, regardless of whether my knee is injured or not.
Anyone and everyone can use Jin Shin Jyutsu to help themselves and others. In fact, you already do and you just don’t know it. Our bodies know what to do when we just let them be.

There’s also a story told of a man who was on the verge of total financial collapse, standing to lose everything if his company’s business didn’t soon turn around. His wife knew someone who knew Mary Burmeister, the woman who brought Jin Shin Jyutsu® to the west. When Mary was asked how he could help himself, she recommended that he hold the inside of his knees for an hour each day every day for a month. And so he did. During those 30 days, things shifted dramatically in every part of his life, and he achieved his greatest financial success to date!

10/26/19 UPDATE: A friend read this post and asked me exactly where SEL #1 was, because she wanted to be sure she was holding the right place. I just checked my book The Touch of Healing, which I highly recommend for people interested in JSJ; it’s what we used as a reference for the JSJ class I took a number of years ago. Anyway, I thought I would share the info that I gave her, in case anyone else had the same question.
The book says “SEL #1/Prime Mover is located on the inside of each knee, right at the bulge, where the thigh and shinbone connect. It unifies the descending energy (which travels down the front of the body) w/ the ascending energy (which flows up the back) and thus harmonizes from head to toe. SEL #1 is considered ‘the prime mover’ connecting extreme heights w/ extreme depths. It helps all forms of abdominal distress (bloating, discomfort, etc) and headaches. It also promotes deeper and easier breathing.”
The book also mentions “There is no need to be overly concerned w/ precision. There is a 3 inch effective radius around every SEL. In time, as one’s awareness grows, one may learn to ‘bull’s-eye,’ but this is not essential.”

Sweet Potato Pizza Crust | Vegan & Gluten-Free
Steamed sweet potatoes are mixed with oat flour, a bit of almond meal, a chia egg, olive oil, apple cider vinegar, and a zesty array of spices. Then, the mixture is plopped on a pizza pan, spread into a circle, and nudged into a toasty oven. The crust puffs as it bakes, thanks to the apple cider vinegar, and the seasonings create the most wonderful aroma.
Prep Time: 20minutes
Cook Time: 1hour
Total Time: 1hour20minutes
Servings 1large pizza crust or 2 medium crusts (approximately 4 people)
Ingredients:
5 1/2cups(28 ounces) peeled and small-cubed sweet potatoes
1tablespoonchia seeds
3tablespoonswater
1 1/4cupgluten-free oat flour
1/4cupalmond meal
1tablespoonolive oil
1tablespoonapple cider vinegar
1teaspoondried basil
1teaspoondried oregano
1 1/4teaspoonsgarlic powder
1/2teaspoonfine-grain sea salt
Pinch of chili flakes
Instructions:
Be sure to measure out 5 1/2 cups of sweet potato cubes (i.e., don’t estimate based on the number of potatoes). Steam the sweet potato cubes in a steamer or over the stove for 30 minutes or until fork-tender.
Add the chia seeds and water to a small bowl, whisk with a fork, and let stand at room temperature for 10 minutes to create a chia egg.
Preheat oven to 400 F.
Add the steamed sweet potatoes to a large mixing bowl and mash them.
Add in the chia egg, oat flour, almond meal, olive oil, apple cider vinegar, basil, oregano, garlic powder, sea salt, and chili flakes. Stir together until combined and all of the oat flour has been incorporated. The mixture should resemble a loose bread dough—sticky and damp yet slightly stretchy.
Line a round perforated pizza pan (i.e., vented) with parchment paper.
Scoop the sweet potato dough onto the lined pizza pan, and use a spatula to spread it into a large 1/4-inch-thick to 1/3-inch-thick oval or circle. This process takes 5 minutes. If needed, lightly grease the spatula with olive oil to prevent the crust from sticking.
Bake for 25 to 35 minutes, or until the crust is well set and the edges are golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
Add desired toppings (e.g., pizza sauce, vegan parmesan, artichokes, cherry tomatoes, basil) and return the pan to the oven and cook for another 5 to 10 minutes or broil for 5 minutes, until the toppings reach desired doneness.
Slice and serve immediately.
Refrigerate leftovers* for up to 4 days.
Notes:
There tends to be some variability in baking time across kitchens, so you may need to bake up to 40 minutes to ensure the center of the crust is set. Alternatively, divide the dough into two pieces, spread each mound of dough out into a 1/4-inch-thick to 1/3-inch-thick layer on two separate pizza pans (forming two crusts), and bake each for 22 to 25 minutes, or until the edges are light golden-brown and the center of the crust is set. Then, add toppings and bake another 5 to 10 minutes.
To reheat leftovers: Preheat the oven to 400 F. Spread the leftover pizza slices onto a parchment-lined baking pan, and bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until warmed through and the bottom of the slices becomes slightly crisp.
