Fat Flush Juice Recipe & Free Weight Loss Training

Here’s a great recipe and offer of a free weight loss training from Ross Bridgeford of LiveEnergized.com…..

Fat Flush Juice

Alkaline Recipe #182: Fat Flush Juice

This fat-fighting, nutrient-dense juice is one of my absolute favorites. I love it.

It tastes great, really, really great and it contains just five ingredients. But every single one of them is nutritious, alkalizing and simply brilliant for weight loss.

Before we get into the juice recipe, let’s take a little look at what each of these powerhouse ingredients can do for you:

  • Baby Spinach: spinach is a rich source of the chlorophyll-containing parts of the green plant cell, called thylakoids. Studies have shown that these thylakoid cells contain a hundred different membrane proteins, as well as various vitamins (A, E and K) and antioxidants like carotenoids, lutein, zeaxanthin, and chlorophyll. This mixture of plant compounds found in the thylakoids have been proven to prevent cravings, increase satiety (2) (feeling fuller for longer), balance blood glucose (3) and increase the efficiency of fat digestion (4) (to make you digest fat in the way the body USES it instead of stores it). Juicing spinach is possibly the best way of getting a concentrated hit of these amazing thylakoids.
  • Kale: also rich in chlorophyll, Kale is a powerful detoxification agent in the body, and when the body can release toxins, it also releases fat.

New research has also shown that the ITCs made from kale’s glucosinolates can help regulate detox at a genetic level.  Kale is also ridiculously rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents, preventing both oxidative stress and inflammation – both of which directly lead to poor blood-glucose regulation, excessive insulin release, a stressed pancreas, a loss of the body’s ability to burn fat as fuel, inflammation in the digestive tract and more.

  • Beetroot: beets also contain antioxidant, anti-inflammatory phyto-nutrients and the most powerful in beets are betalains, and they provide similar benefits as kale, above. However, beetroot is also a diuretic helping the body rid itself water retention. The betaine in beetroot has also been proven to help lower blood pressure, and reduce fatty deposits in the liver, both of which can be important for people who are already in an overweight category.
  • Cucumber: also a highly alkaline, a diuretic, an anti-inflammatory and an anti-oxidant but also now known to contain lariciresinol, pinoresinol, and secoisolariciresinol — three lignans that have a strong history of research in connection with reduced risk of cardiovascular disease.
  • Cinnamon: helps control blood sugar levels, improves how your body uses insulin, controls hunger and cravings and plays a key role in how your body uses stored fat. An all-round weight loss powerhouse!

All in all, that is five high-alkaline, powerful, weight-loss nutrients that ALSO fight inflammation, provide protective antioxidants, a rich source of chlorophyll…and together taste DELICIOUS!

And real quick, if you want to join me for my free Alkaline Effortless Weight Loss training on Sunday 29th September – register here 🙂

+40 Plus Natural Cold And Flu Remedies

I thought this post from The Grow Network where they compiled comments from their readers about what they use for fighting or preventing colds and flu makes a great resource to have on hand. Always good to have that first-hand experience factor when something is recommended!

cold flu home remedy

40+ Natural Cold and Flu Remedies

Cold or flu got you down? Our Community’s got you covered! Check out these great tips and tricks for treating (and preventing!) colds and flus naturally.

Silver

When it comes to fighting off colds and flu, several of you swear that silver is worth its weight in gold.

  • Suz says, “Since flu starts in the gut, we take colloidal silver at the first symptoms: 5–6 ounces for adults over 170 pounds, 4 ounces for adults under 170 pounds, 3 ounces for those between 80–110 pounds, and start with 2 ounces for a child. After 90 mins, you should see a reduction in symptoms. Four hours after the first dose, take a second dose of equal amount. Six hours after the second dose, take a third dose of equal amount.” She says it will stop not only flu in its tracks, but also stomach viruses and food poisoning. Suz also suggests taking probiotics or eating yogurt the next day to help restore healthy gut bacteria.
  • At the first sign of illness, Marly gargles with and swallows ASAP Smart Silver, and keeps it up all day while symptoms persist.
  • Dsymons recommends snorting some colloidal/nano silver to help assuage a stuffy nose.
  • Phil Tkachuk recommends 10ppm colloidal silver. He says you can either buy it, or make it yourself using The Silver Edge generator or Atlasnova generator.

Fire Cider/Four Thieves Tonic/Dragon’s Breath

Community members velaangels, MarkKathyBrodo, and Rhonda all rely on homemade fire cider as a winter immune booster. Rhonda takes 1 shot per day throughout the winter for prevention, and also uses it to shorten the duration of the illness if she does catch a cold or the flu.

Loa uses Dragon’s Breath—which she says is similar to fire cider—daily during flu season. She works at a high school “around a LOT of sneezing, wheezing, coughing kids” and says she hasn’t had a cold or the flu in the 13 years since she started boosting her immune system with Dragon’s Breath. Here’s how she makes it: “I layer onions, garlic, horseradish, ginger, parsley, and cayenne peppers in a jar and cover with natural apple cider vinegar. I let it steep for about 6 weeks, then strain, add some powdered turmeric, and put the glass jar into the refrigerator. To use, I mix a tablespoon of the mixture with a tablespoon of honey added to a cup of warm water.”

Teas, Tonics, and Tinctures

You offered our Community members some wonderful ideas for teas, tonics, and tinctures.

  • Thomas Hodge makes an infusion with crushed Linden flowers and stems by adding 1/2 ounce of plant matter to a quart canning jar and then filling the jar with hot water. He seals it, lets it sit overnight, and strains it in the morning, squeezing the liquid from the linden. Then, he says, “chill it or drink it right away—8 ounces every 3 or 4 hours.”
  • Val recommends a “flu tea” made with 1 teaspoon each of elderflower, mint, yarrow, and lemon juice. This makes 2 cups of tea. “The elderflower is anti-catarrhal and anti-inflammatory, the mint is diaphoretic (it increases bile, thereby helping to release toxins), and the yarrow increases sweating but lowers fevers. It is a pleasant-tasting tea.” Brodo makes a similar tea, but substitutes lemon balm for the mint and adds a spoonful of local, raw honey.
  • Sunny makes a tea from dried elderberries, turmeric, freshly ground black pepper, and slices of fresh gingers, and drinks it all day long, usually mixed in with coffee or chai tea.
  • peaveyplunker mixes together 3 cloves garlic, 1 tablespoon honey and 1/8 teaspoon of cayenne pepper, and takes 1/2 teaspoon of the mixture every half hour until symptoms subside.
  • Stephanie Lebron creates a tea with hot water and lemon juice, plus either ginger, rosemary essential oil, or lemon eucalyptus essential oil.
  • w13jenjohnuses a homemade tincture of elderberry, licorice, and wild cherry bark, and also recommends a tea made with sage, lemon eucalyptus, and ginger, then sweetened with honey.
  • Shrabonisays that a “ginger, pepper, and turmeric-powder decoction in a glass of warm water works wonders.”
  • moncaivegan90boils 2 cups of water with a cinnamon stick, adds 1 cup of fresh red or purple bougainvillea flowers, turns off the heat, covers it for 2 minutes, and then strains it. “I like to add a spoonful of raw honey and enjoy 2 to 3 times a day. This works especially well for colds and coughs.”
  • Yvette McLean makes a tea with mullein, peppermint, and lemongrass, and drinks it around the clock—hot or cold—for 2 to 3 days. She also uses the tea in the following recipe:5 cloves garlic
2 Tbsp. sage (fresh or dried)
2 Tbsp. oregano (fresh or dried)
    3 Tbsp. fresh ginger
1 Tbsp. thyme (fresh or dried)
1 Tbsp. rosemary (fresh or dried)
    2 Tbsp. honey
    2 whole lemons (including skin)
2 c. mullein/peppermint/lemongrass tea, cooled Blend all ingredients together. Do not heat mixture. Take 1–2 ounces 3 times per day.“You will be better by the third day,” she says.

Oregano Oil

Several of you recommend using oregano oil to fight off colds and the flu. But do your research! Joy Deussen says, “Be careful with oregano oil. It is hot and will burn the inside of your mouth. I recommend you put it in a capsule and swallow for no discomfort.”

Vitamins

Increase your vitamin intake when you’re fighting off a cold or the flu.

  • Sunny increases consumption of vitamin D.
  • Stephanie Lebron says she takes 2000 mg of vitamin C every hour or so in the first 24 hours of feeling something coming on.
  • Nance Shaw also takes vitamin A morning and night.

Elderberry

Take some form of elderberry for its immune-boosting properties.

  • Along with taking homeopathic oscillococcinum and drinking a Linden infusion, Thomas Hodge takes a tablespoon of black elderberry extract before bed
  • Denise takes 1 teaspoon of elderberry syrup every day during cold and flu season
  • Scott Sexton takes elderberry syrup and/or tincture, plus recommends “Lots of water and rest. Meditation and yoga. And frequent sips of apple cider vinegar. I use essential oils, too. Oregano and the Thieves blend. Plus, I always add a citrus oil. Citrus oils are just happy, and I think they put me in a better mood, too.”

DIY Elderberry Syrup Kit

Onions and Garlic

Onions and garlic are a favorite food when you’re dealing with colds and the flu.

  • For air purification, Rebecca Potrafka leaves a cut-up onion sitting out in a glass dish. She also takes honey onion syrup for a scratchy throat.
  • Susanne Lambert offers an interesting thought on using onions: “I’ve done some experiments with onions underfoot before bed with a pair of socks. I found that when I woke in the morning, my stuffy nose was gone.”
  • Sunny adds raw or slightly roasted garlic cloves plus sautéed onions to meals.
  • Michael Gray says that if he feels something coming on, he adds to his meals “a fresh clove of garlic, smashed, chopped fine, left out for 2 to 3 minutes” and says that he gets better faster than others who are sick at the same time but don’t take fresh garlic.
  • Marjory is also a huge fan of using raw garlic as an immune booster when she’s fighting off a cold. She’ll chop up several cloves, let them sit for about 10 minutes, and swallow them straight. (Yes, we’ve seen her do this firsthand! 😉)

Over-the-Counter Remedies

Sometimes, the pharmacy is your friend. Our Community members recommended several over-the-counter products that help fight colds and the flu.

  • Bonnie Camo and Thomas Hodge both recommend homeopathic oscillococcinum. Bonnie says it “usually cures colds or flu if taken in the first 24–48 hours. Available in most pharmacies and inexpensive.”
  • Jill recommends cocolaurin. “It’s a natural supplement, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal. Very effective and safe.” (Cocolaurin is a super-concentrated form of monolaurin, which is distilled from coconut oil.)
  • Several of our Community members take zinc when fighting off a cold or the flu. Nance Shaw recommends a dose morning and night, kathybelair52 sucks on zinc acetate lozenges at the first sign of cold, and Jill takes zinc in the form of Zicam. Sunny also occasionally uses Zarbee’s Nighttime Cough and Throat Relief drink mix, which contains zinc.
  • Sunny also puts Plant Therapy Organic Immune Aid essential oil in the diffuser, under the nose, and on the soles of the feet.
  • When TommyD feels something coming on, he takes 3 capsules of echinacea 3 times a day for a few days.
  • Marius says colloidal silver usually helps him avoid the flu. However, “this year the flu strain was extremely potent, and it got me for the first time in 8 years. I cured it in about 2 days by ingesting hydrogen peroxide 3% In the next days, I rebuilt my intestinal flora—which could be damaged by hydrogen peroxide—by eating probiotics.”
  • Among other things, Nance Shaw recommends soothing coughs at bedtime by putting Vick’s VapoRub on the arches of the feet.
  • Several of you recommend using a neti pot during the sickness to help relieve symptoms. (Remember, though—the FDA recommends rinsing only with distilled, sterile, or previously boiled water, as tap water may contain harmful organisms that could actually make the problem worse.)

Encourage Fever

PInteaReed says, “If you are stricken with flu, make sure to help your fever. Wrap up in heavy blankets and try to keep the fever at 101°F to 102°F. Of course, if it goes higher, unwrap! Fever is what helps kill the viruses inside you. We just used this on this recent strain of really nasty flu that is going around. An hour after you wrap up, you should see a huge abatement of symptoms.”

Prevent It

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and our Community members offered some great suggestions for keeping colds and the flu at bay.

  • TommyD says he can’t remember the last time he had the flu, and attributes part of his immune strength to cooking regularly with a spice mix of turmeric, freshly ground black pepper, ginger powder, and Ceylon cinnamon.
  • Sandy Hines says neither she nor her husband have caught the flu or a cold in over 30 years. “If your
body is alkaline, flu viruses and cold germs cannot live. Every night before bedtime, we have 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in a few inches of cool water.” They also eat about 2/3 cup of plain yogurt with a teaspoon of raw, unfiltered, local honey in it during the day; drink plenty of clean water, eat nutritiously; drink orange juice; and take 1,000 to 2,000 mg of vitamin C every day.
  • Michael Gray helps prevent illness by taking a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and a teaspoon of honey mixed in warm water every day.
  • Emily says she doesn’t catch colds or the flu, and attributes it to taking Citricidal brand grapefruit seed extract at least once per day. She adds, “I take up to 24 drops. Three is what the package says. Vitamin C is one reason it works so well, and that’s natural Vitamin C, not ‘ascorbic acid.’”
  • Community member bobcarmenmertz has been taking homemade Golden Paste for more than 8 months and credits it for feeling well. “I did start to get a cold, but the severity and duration were greatly reduced. The paste includes turmeric powder, coconut oil, and freshly ground black pepper. You can make it yourself and refrigerate for 2 weeks.” One recipe we found for Golden Paste is as follows:
    1/2 c. turmeric powder
1 c. water (plus up to an additional cup of water, if needed)
2–3 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
1/3 c. healthy fat—either from raw, unrefined, cold-pressed coconut oil, flaxseed oil, or virgin/extra virgin olive oil. Combine the turmeric and 1 c. water in a saucepan, and bring to a boil. Turn the heat to low and simmer for 7–10 minutes or until the mixture becomes a thick paste. (You may need to add some or all of the additional water during this step.) Remove from heat and let the turmeric/water mixture cool down until it is warm and not hot. Add the freshly ground black pepper and oil, and stir well to incorporate. Allow it to cool, then keep it in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks, or freeze some if you don’t think you’ll use it up by then. You can use Golden Paste in smoothies, in yogurt, as a condiment—even as as an immune-booster for your pets!

As an added bonus, I’m adding this recipe I just got in a newsletter from Green Smoothie Girl Robyn Openshaw:

Immune-Fuel Hot LemonAid

Fabulous immune-boosting hot drink featuring water, raw honey, raw apple cider vinegar, garlic, ginger, and cayenne pepper.

  • 4 cups hot water (not boiling)
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp raw honey (raw is important)
  • 1/2 piece peeled and chopped fresh ginger root
  • 1/4 cup raw apple cider vinegar (raw is important)
  • cayenne pepper to taste (the hotter the better)
  • 2 cloves fresh garlic (optional)
  1. Blend all ingredients for 30-60 seconds, until smooth, in a high-speed blender. Drink 1 cup at the first sign of illness, and another cup every 2 hours or as desired.
  2. Do not re-heat Elixir after you make the batch; enzymes and immune-stimulating properties will be damaged.
  3. Drink it cold or at room temperature after your first serving. It will last 1 week in the fridge but can be frozen!

New Recipes For A New Year, Plus Acupressure Chart And Other Free Resources!

In case there’s been a little too much over-indulgence during the holiday season, here’s 2 recipes (plus a link to more!) from  Ross Bridgeford, author of The Alkaline Reset Cleanse, for toning and regenerating the liver, followed by 5 free resources to help get 2019 off to a healthy start…..

image

But first, there are a few things you need to know about your amazing liver:

1) it is one of the most hard-working organs in your body
2) when your liver is under stress, every area of your health will suffer
3) your liver has the incredible power to heal, rebuild & regenerate

And the alkaline foods in this juice have been proven to support and nourish the liver, prevent liver damage and help the liver rebuild…rapidly!

The Ultimate Liver Regeneration Juice

Makes 2 Servings

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cucumber
  • 1/2 Bunch Kale
  • 2 Large Handfuls of Spinach (or any other leafy green)
  • 1/2 Grapefruit
  • 1/2 Inch of Ginger
  • 1 Inch of Turmeric
  • 1 Beetroot
  • 1 Carrot

Directions:

Thoroughly wash all of the ingredients (except for the grapefruit) and juice, starting with the leafy greens, then the ginger and turmeric, then the root vegetables, and finally the cucumber. This ensures that the cucumber at the end washes everything through

Put the 200 ml of water through the juicer to further wash the goodness and flavors through.

Finally, squeeze and gently stir in the grapefruit at the end.

Note: This juice makes TWO serves, so you can either halve the ingredient quantities for one – OR – and this is my recommendation, you can put the other serve into an airtight container in the fridge for later, or tomorrow.

If kept airtight, cool and in a dark place (i.e. the fridge) a juice will keep for 24-36 hours. Of course fresh is best, but this is a good way to halve your juicing time and workload!

I share how each of these ingredients can be so important in nourishing and regenerating the liver – let’s dig into a few now:

  • Spinach & Kale (the leafy greens): Like the rest of your body, your liver loves these greens! Spinach and kale are awesome, and you can swap in or out with watercress, chard, romaine, arugula etc. too. They’re loaded with chlorophyll which alkalizes and purifies the blood to help liver function. Chlorophyll also help neutralize heavy metals, toxic chemicals, and even pesticides!
  • Beetroot & Carrot: extremely high in the plant-based antioxidants: flavonoids and beta-carotene. Eating beetroot and carrots can help stimulate and improve overall liver function.
  • Grapefruit: High in both vitamin C and antioxidants, grapefruit increases the natural cleansing processes of the liver. A small glass of freshly-squeezed grapefruit juice will help boost production of the liver detoxification enzymes that help flush out carcinogens and other toxins.
  • Turmeric: one of the only foods that can assist the enzymes that are responsible for flushing out dietary carcinogens – protecting the liver from damage. Turmeric can also actively assist in the regeneration of damaged liver cells – it literally repairs and regenerates your liver!
  • Ginger: helps prevent the toxic effects of a wide array of substances, effectively taking the burden off the liver. In addition, ginger lowers serum cholesterol which dramatically decreases the risk of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease.

A cleansing version:

Liver Cleansing Tonic

Makes 2 servings

Ingredients:

2 large grapefruits
4 lemons
300 ml of filtered water
2 tablespoons of cold-pressed flax oil
1 clove of fresh garlic
2 inches of fresh root ginger
A dash of cayenne pepper!

Directions:

Squeeze the juice of the grapefruit and lemon into a blender

Next, grate the garlic and the ginger, and then using a garlic press, squeeze this into the juice

Now add the water, plant-based omega oil and blend for 30 seconds (and add more ginger/garlic to taste)

Why This Recipe Works:

Garlic: contains numerous sulfur-containing compounds that are known to activate the liver enzymes responsible for expelling toxins from the body. Another lies in the presence of both allicin and selenium, two important nutrients that play an integral role in the protection of the liver from damage.

Garlic is also proven to activate cells that specifically protect us from liver cancer, and also to lower cholesterol, prevent fatty liver and so much more.

Ginger: has also shown remarkable abilities to prevent liver damage, scarring and prevent fibroids as well as fatty liver.

Grapefruit: Phytonutrients in grapefruit called limonoids prevent tumor formation by promoting the production of one of the master antioxidants: glutathione-S-transferase.

This detoxifying enzyme ignites a reaction in the liver that helps to make toxic compounds easier to remove from body, protecting the liver (and kidneys) in the process.

Lemons: while also containing the limonoids mentioned above, lemons also supports liver function by strengthening liver enzymes, regulating blood carbohydrate levels and serving as the basis for new enzyme creation.

Omega 3: strongly proven to prevent fatty liver and liver disease, omega 3 is also powerfully anti-inflammatory and helps prevent toxic buildup, thus removing a lot of stress on the liver too.

Trouble Getting Some Zzzzzzs? Try These Sleep Aids

I’ve certainly had my share of sleep-deprived nights. For me, it’s usually not a matter of having trouble falling asleep, but waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to get BACK to sleep.

Anyway, if you’re looking for some natural ways to help you get a better night’s rest, then I hope you find the following information helpful. I haven’t tried all the things listed here, but the ones I’ve used so far that seem to make a difference are magnesium and tart cherries, either freeze-dried or in juice concentrate form (be sure you buy organic, since cherries are one of the most pesticide-laden crops around). FYI, 8 oz of Montmorency tart cherry juice has 4 times the melatonin of other kinds of cherries, so that’s what I always look for. I keep meaning to try kiwis, since I really like them, but usually eat them in the morning, so I want to see what happens if I eat them before bed.

High sleep index foods

You’ve probably heard of tryptophan, the amino acid that many people blame for their lethargy after Thanksgiving dinner. The body converts tryptophan into neurotransmitters, such as serotonin and melatonin, that help us relax. As a result, tryptophan-rich foods help us feel sleepy. Turkey, hummuslentils and kelp are naturally high in tryptophan and contain many other beneficial nutrients.

*Bananas are also a great “sleep index” food: They contain tryptophan, potassium and magnesium, all of which are natural muscle relaxants. Cherries are a good source of melatonin, which can help us get more restful, reparative sleep.

And did you know that in one study, people who ate two kiwi fruits (see end of post for more about this) for more before bed got an extra hour of sleep at night? They woke up later and took less time to fall asleep.

Carbohydrate-rich foods are often excellent at promoting better sleep. A study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that high-glycemic carbohydrates, which increase sugar levels rapidly, encourage sleep when eaten about four hours before bedtime. Jasmine rice, potatoescarrots, corn and honey are healthy options.

Calcium helps the brain use tryptophan to create melatonin. Specific food combinations, such as whole grain cereals and milkpeanut butter sandwiches, or cheese and crackers contain balanced amounts of calcium and carbohydrates. Calcium is also a natural muscle relaxant.

When to eat

Eating high sleep index foods calms the nervous system and triggers sleep-inducing hormones. But timing is everything. A large meal right before bedtime can interfere with sleep. Tryptophan takes at least an hour to reach the brain, so plan meals accordingly.

Avoid rich, high-fat foods close to bedtime. They require a lot of work to digest and may cause stomach trouble and heartburn. Also, moderate your beverages. Too many fluids will cause frequent trips to the bathroom during the night. In particular, caffeinated beverages stimulate the body and act as diuretics, a double whammy when trying to sleep.

Natural sleep aids

As noted, there is no shortage of sleep aids, either over the counter or by prescription. While these aids generally work in the short term, they come with a long list of detrimental side effects and can become habit-forming. In addition, these powerful drugs are known to interfere with a number of critical biological mechanisms. Remember, they’re not meant to be gentle, but rather to put you out like a light.

I recommend a combination of relaxing, non-habit-forming herbs: lemon balm, passionflower, vitamin B6 and small doses of melatonin, about 500 mcg, can be very helpful.

When taken together 15 minutes before bed, these herbs and nutrients help to promote a gentle state of relaxation and drowsiness. Even better, they help optimize the body’s natural repair processes during sleep. They also work to support numerous other areas of health and longevity as well.

One of the shortcomings of modern society is that every problem requires maximum response. But when it comes to healthy relaxation and restful sleep, you should take a softer, gentler approach.

High sleep index foods, together with calming supplements can help you relax, enjoy a restful sleep and wake feeling refreshed. Other excellent sleep-supportive measures include mindful relaxation techniques, such as meditation and deep breathing.

Getting a good night’s rest is one of the best things you can do for health and well-being. When you support your natural sleep rhythms and cycles with the right foods, supplements and healthy relaxation measures, you reap significant and noticeable benefits. In addition to greater physical energy, mental clarity and emotional balance, getting quality sleep each night results in stronger vitality and better overall health, naturally.

*And the peel of a banana apparently has 3 times as much magnesium as the fruit itself, which is probably why someone came up with a recipe for using “Banana Tea” as a sleep aid. All you do is wash a banana (be sure it’s organic), cut in half w/ peel on; cut off tips and boil 3 to 4 minutes in filtered/structured water, steep and drink the liquid. You can refrigerate the fruit  for use the next day in a smoothie (the peel is totally edible and high in nutrition, so you may try tossing that in, too), yogurt, oatmeal, or some other way.

More details on kiwis…..

Kiwis — an Alternative to Tart Cherry Juice?

Kiwis are another fruit to add to your insomnia-fighting arsenal. In a study at Taiwan’s Taipei Medical University, scientists recruited volunteers to eat two kiwifruit one hour before bedtime. After four weeks, their quality of sleep improved significantly.

  • The amount of time it took to fall asleep decreased by 35.4 percent.
  • The amount of time spent lying awake after initially falling asleep reduced by 28.9 percent.
  • Sleep quality improved by 42.4 percent.
  • Sleep time increased by 13.4 percent.

Turmeric milk, also called golden milk,  before bedtime is used by many people as a sleep aid (also see the link later in this post to the Self-help **blog on golden milk that includes a version where you don’t have to make a paste beforehand)……

One of my favorite relaxation and sleep aids is lavender essential oil….rubbing a couple of drops on my hands and then inhaling, or dabbing on my wrists, temples or soles of my feed. Also, warm epsom salt soaks, and being careful of the amount of blue light I get at night by turning off the computer an hour or two before bedtime. I’ve also read where oranges, pineapples and passion flower tea are helpful. Chamomile tea is well-known for its relaxing, sleep-inducing quality, and the Mediterranean diet and olive oil are supposedly good for sleep, as well. And I read that most sleep disorders are connected to hormonal toxicity, so that’s something some people may need to address.

Another thing I just came across is this tip from Kelly at Primarily Inspired about having a snake plant in your bedrooom…..

Please go get yourself a snake plant. You will thank me later. Absolutely gorgeous, amazing air purifying plant that even releases oxygen through the night, tough as nails, thrives anywhere you put it…I could go on and on about the reasons I adore my snake plants.  This plant is pretty darn close to impossible to kill.

And can we talk about how gorgeous it is?!  What a stunner!

I have a snake plant in each bedroom of my house because it’s one of the very few plants that release oxygen at night and can actually help you get a better night sleep. How cool is that?!  It’s one the of the best air purifying plants you can own. In fact, snake plants produce so much oxygen that in an air sealed room, these plants are capable of producing enough oxygen to breathe normally…amazing!

I highly recommend getting one (or six like me) and then I think you’ll see why I’m so fanatical about them.

And here’s some info about using magnolia tree bark as a remedy for stress and deeper sleep:

Dandelion: The “Weed” With Multiple Health Benefits

Dandelion basket

Two years ago around spring time I was taking a walk and noticing all the dandelions and wishing I knew more about their beneficial properties, and lo and behold when I got home there was actually an article in my in-box about them. Talk about synchronicity! That started me doing more research and putting this post together, although I never got around to actually finishing it. But with spring just around the corner again, this seems like the perfect time to finally get it done.

Growing up I was taught that dandelions were weeds and part of my regular “chores” was to rid the front yard of them before the flowers got all “puff-bally” and turned to seed. After putting this post together, I am thankfully less clue-less 🙂 and amazed by the many uses dandelions have and consider us very fortunate to have them around. Often I’ll pick some leaves for a salad or the bright yellow flowers to add a little color to the room and them later use them in a tea.

Dandelion – A Backyard Herb with Many Benefits

Did you know you’ve probably pulled, stomped or sprayed a natural superfood that grows in your backyard? Dandelion is mostly known as a backyard weed, but it has amazing nutrient qualities and health promoting properties.

All the parts of the plant can be used in various ways though the roots and leaves are the most commonly used as herbs. Who knew that this plant with puffy flowers that grant childhood wishes could offer so much benefit?

Dandelion Root and Leaves

Dandelion is a source of a variety of nutrients and the leaves and root contain Vitamins (like A, C, K and B-vitamins) as well as minerals (including magnesium, zinc, potassium, iron, calcium and choline). The various parts of the plant have a long history of use as an herbal remedy, and every documented population in areas where it grows naturally has used it medicinally.

It also serves as an abundant natural food source, as all parts of the plant can be eaten. The root is often roasted and used in teas or consumed whole. The leaves make a great addition to salads or other dishes requiring greens and the flowers (while still yellow), can be eaten raw, cooked or even made into wine!

Traditional cultures have used dandelion to support digestive and hormone health and it was often consumed to support lactation or to help remedy issues like urinary tract infections.

Benefits of Dandelion

According to the How To Herb Book, this backyard superfood is beneficial in many ways, including:

Liver Support and Detoxification

Dandelion has been used for years by various cultures to support healthy liver function and natural detoxification in the body. Though it hasn’t been well studied, many people with hepatitis turn to it to help support the liver. The University of Maryland Medical Center notes that:

In the past, roots and leaves were used to treat liver problems. Native Americans also boiled dandelion in water and took it to treat kidney disease, swelling, skin problems, heartburn, and upset stomach. In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), it has been used to treat stomach problems, appendicitis, and breast problems, such as inflammation or lack of milk flow. In Europe, dandelion was used in remedies for fever, boils, eye problems, diabetes, and diarrhea.

Personal Note: Was just reading an article about Nick Polizzi’s 3 favorite herbs and dandelion made the list. Here’s part of what he wrote:

Its common name is a corruption of the French “Dent de Lion” or “lions tooth” – a reference to its jagged, toothlike leaves.

My friend and wild food expert, Daniel Vitalis, says that the herbs that our body needs the most tend to grow within a mile of us, just another way that mother earth looks out for her children.

To put it simply, dandelions are your liver’s best friend. Yes, your liver, the second largest organ in your body, which among many other duties serves as your body’s filter. If you have been eating “naughtily” and feel as though you have gunkily guk (my own scientific term) built up inside of you, the first course of action is to a) change your diet and b) nurture your liver so that it can process the toxins you’ve ingested and safely remove them from your system.

The best liver cleanser I know of is freshly brewed dandelion root tea. And I’m not alone in this theory. Folk healers and doctors were prescribing this long before our time. Another delicious way to promote liver health is to add dandelion greens to salads or sauté them alongside your protein.

Female Health and Hormone Balance

Due to its high levels of various nutrients and potential ability to help support the body’s natural detoxification systems, dandelion is often used by those with hormone imbalance, urinary infection and recurrent mastitis. Though not well studied, there is an abundance of anecdotal evidence from women who have used it to help remedy recurring UTIs or other infections.

Clearer Skin

Due to its natural magnesium and zinc content and its potential ability to support detoxification, dandelion is also know as being good for the skin. It can be used topically in applications like tinctures and poultices and many people also take it in capsule or tea form to help support healthy skin.

Good Source of Nutrients

Dandelion is a great source of many important vitamins and minerals, as well as antioxidants and nutritive salts, which may help support blood health and increase iron absorption. I personally often add dried leaves to teas for a nutrient boost or use dandelion root in place of coffee.

Blood Sugar Balance

The University of Maryland Medical Center also reports that:

Preliminary animal studies suggest that dandelion may help normalize blood sugar levels and lower total cholesterol and triglycerides while raising HDL (good) cholesterol in diabetic mice. Researchers need to see if dandelion will work in people. A few animal studies also suggest that dandelion might help fight inflammation.

Uses of Dandelion Root and Leaves

Perhaps we wouldn’t be so quick to remove this “backyard weed” if we were more familiar with the myriad of uses it has. The entire dandelion plant can be used and if you have a safe (non-sprayed) source in your yard or community, you can consider harvesting it yourself.

Here are some of the ways to use dandelion:

Coffee Substitute

Dandelion root is tougher and more hardy than the leaf and is often used in decoctions and tinctures for this reason. The powder is often added in coffee substitutes (my favorite is Dandy Blend). The root is considered a natural diuretic and is sometimes used for this purpose.

Poultices

Dandelion root and leaf are often listed as the ingredients of  teas and poultices for abscesses and sores, especially on the breast and in female health remedies as they can help support lactation and remedy urinary issues.

According to Mountain Rose Herbs:

Chopped dandelion root can be combined with myrrh to make a poultice for boils and abscesses, with honeysuckle flowers to make a tea to be drunk to treat boils and abscesses, with skullcap and/or chrysanthemum flowers to make a tea to be drunk to treat sore eyes, or with heal-all to treat hard phlegm in bronchitis. Can also be administered in capsule or extract form for convenience.

Dandelion Tea

The flower can be used to make tea and even to make some types of wine. The leaves and root can also be used in teas, though they have a stronger taste and are often combined with other synergistic herbs for flavor and increased nutrient absorption.

Salads and Greens

The leaves can be consumed fresh on a salad or in recipes as well as substituted for greens like kale and collards in recipes or cooking. The antioxidant rich leaves are the most diuretic part of the plant so while they can be consumed regularly, it is important to maintain hydration too.

Important Notes:

It is important to check with a doctor before taking this or any herb, especially in large amounts or if taking any other medicine or supplement or if pregnant or nursing. Though it is generally considered safe, those allergic to ragweed, chrysanthemums, marigold, chamomile, yarrow, daisies, or iodine may not be able to consume it.

Anyone who gathers dandelion from wild sources (like the backyard) should make sure that the area has not been sprayed with pesticides or herbicides and that it does not come from an area where pets may have eliminated.

And here’s more about how this powerhouse “weed” fights cancer……

A so-called “weed” growing right in your front and back yards could hold the key to being the most effective cancer-fighting compound in the world.

Previous research, as well as recent research from the University of Windsor in Canada, has found that dandelion root may be especially effective in treating and defeating cancer, and much more so than immune system-destroying chemotherapy.

As noted by the university in a press release, researchers are so sure that they have finally developed the correct dosage of the extract, that they are preparing clinical trials using a specially formulated dandelion tea.

Research director and biochemist Dr. Siyaram Pandey, Ph.D., of the University of Windsor, along with his fellow researchers, have shown successfully in the lab how the dandelion root extract causes cancer cells to go through apoptosis, or cell suicide, while leaving healthy cells intact.

“This is fantastic news,” Pandey said. “We’ve been waiting for this announcement for a long time and now it is real.”

The February 2015 announcement has special meaning for a project that was dedicated to the memory of Kevin Couvillon, who lost a three-year battle with acute myeloid leukemia in November 2010, the university said.

Destroying cancer cells within two days

The following year, his parents, Dave and Donna Couvillon, made a large contribution to Dr. Pandey’s research on natural extracts and potential cancer treatments.

“We strongly feel that Kevin would want us to continue to fight against cancer so that others would be spared such a cruel fate,” said Donna Couvillon. “Natural medicine allows one’s own immune system to be part of healing process and we wholeheartedly support this endeavour and the excellent research done by this team.”

The university press release stated further:

The dandelion root formula in use in the Pandey lab is about five times more concentrated than the extract that can be purchased over the counter and has been proven to kill leukemia, melanoma and pancreatic cancer cells in lab mice.

Caroline Hamm, an oncologist at the Windsor Regional Cancer Center, made an application to Health Canada in 2012 to proceed to human clinical trials

“This is huge, such a big. accomplishment,” says Dave Couvillon. “To see it happening is the first step and now we need to keep our fingers crossed that they get the right kind of results and we’re confident they will.”

The website Healthy Solutions reported last month that the trials found that cancer cells were destroyed within 48 hours.

From the University of Windsor’s Dandelion Root Project website:

Since the commencement of this project, we have been able to successfully assess the effect of a simple water extract of dandelion root in various human cancer cell types, in the lab and we have observed its effectiveness against human T cell leukemia, chronic myelomonocytic leukemia, pancreatic and colon cancers, with no toxicity to non-cancer cells. Furthermore, these efficacy studies have been confirmed in animal models (mice) that have been transplanted with human colon cancer cells.

Additional health benefits

Clinical trials were opened to 30 patients, all of whom had already exhausted all other cancer treatment options.

As we have reported, dandelions have other health benefits as well:

The dandelion greens contain extremely important vitamins and minerals such as vitamin B6, thiamine, riboflavin, vitamin C, iron, calcium, potassium, folate, magnesium and manganese. They may contribute up to 535% of the suggested daily intake of vitamin K, not to mention over 110% of the recommended daily intake of vitamin A. It is believed that some of its flavonoids such as zeaxanthin and cryptoxanthin have specific healing properties. Zeaxanthin seems to provide protection for the retina when confronted by the sun’s UV rays, while cryptoxanthin can potentially defend the body against the development of mouth and lung cancer cells.

For more on dandelion’s cancer-killing properties go here.

A short excerpt from a newsletter by Underground Health Reporter about using dandelion instead of prescription drugs for indigestion and blood cancer:

Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) like Nexium, Prilosec, and Prevacid do the exact opposite of what you want them to do.  They reduce stomach acid!  Long-term use of PPIs may result in mineral and nutrient depletion and cause serious illnesses, including…

  • Pneumonia
  • Bone loss
  • Hip fractures
  • Infection with Clostridium difficile, a harmful intestinal bacteria

If you or someone you love frequently suffers from heartburn or indigestion, turn away from PPIs and look to bitter herbs instead.  Bitters such as dandelion and chicory stimulate the production of stomach acid and other digestive juices.

Dandelion For Digestion

The bitter flavor of dandelion amps up saliva production, which helps neutralize stomach acid.  Dandelion is also anti-inflammatory, meaning it can further soothe heartburn.  Herbalists also recommend dandelion as a treatment for arthritis, gout, diabetes, cancer, and liver issues.

You can eat the greens raw in a salad, cook the greens and/or the root, blend them in your green smoothie… you can even make a coffee substitute.  When using as a tincture, take 10-20 drops of dandelion extract at the start of a meal.

The common garden weed Taraxacum officinale is public enemy #1 to homeowners who want a nice lawn …

But instead of spraying these bright yellow flowers with herbicides when they first pop up in spring, you may be better served by pulling them out by the root and eating them.

While most folks spray or pull these yard invaders, a select, savvy few eat dandelion leaves in salads and stir fries, fry the flowers and eat them as snacks, and even enjoy dandelion wine and tea.

In fact, the reason we even have these flowers in American lawns is because Europeans brought them over to use their leaves as salad greens!

They’re also rich in antioxidants, which reduce inflammation and pacify raging free radicals for better overall health.

In modern medicine, dandelion flowers and leaves have been shown to protect skin from damage caused by the sun’s UVB radiation.

These leaf and flower extracts also stimulate glutathione, an important antioxidant used in cell generation.

Dandelion root is most commonly taken as a tea, which you can make yourself by drying and food-processing the root.

New Research on Dandelions and blood cancer underway…..

Most recently, the University of Windsor received approval to continue in a game-changing Phase One human trial … one that could change how mainstream medicine views alternative and complementary cancer treatments forever.

Very soon, 30 people with end-stage blood cancers such as leukemia and lymphoma, who have had no success with conventional treatments, will help the world discover whether a super-potent dandelion tea has the power to save lives.

The dandelion root tea is formulated by Calgary-based natural health products company AOR Inc.

AOR spent about 18 months creating this potent therapeutic tea. The end product is a milled, extracted and freeze-dried dandelion root the color of mustard.

It is six to ten times more powerful than what’s available at a health food or drug store – or in your backyard. The AOR creation is not intended to be used as a supplement or like ordinary tea, but is being tested specifically for its ability to induce apoptosis in cancer cells.4

Health Canada approved the partnership between the University of Windsor and AOR in 2013, and trials are beginning in the next few months, according to our information.

The goal of Phase One trials, being the first of four, are to test the treatment in a small group for the first time to evaluate its safety, determine a safe dosage range and to identify any and all side effects.

It will most likely be another year to 18 months before the results are in.

If it works, the researchers will move onto Phase Two trials.

Even though it’ll be a while before a dandelion root-based cancer treatment is available in the marketplace, it’s very exciting that these natural remedies are being taken seriously as medical treatments.

And you don’t have to wait to start enjoying your own gourmet dandelion creations … and take advantage of their health-boosting properties.

If you or someone you know is undergoing cancer treatments, it could be worth trying dandelion tea to relieve symptoms of nausea and to aid in eliminating toxins and waste from your body.

If you’re interested in trying it, do check with your doctor (hopefully one who supports natural treatments). Dandelion root is powerful and you want to avoid any unexpected interactions or side effects.

It’s so easy to make your own tea: just clean the roots and dry them out for a few days. You can process them in a blender and put them into empty teabags, or just steep the roots in water.

You can also purchase high quality dandelion root tea from your favorite health store or retailer. Some farmer’s markets sell dandelions as well.

If you’re interested in making your own dandelion tea, here is a great recipe from Natural News Blogs, and here’s some good information about when and how to harvest dandelions that also includes a recipe for making a soup with them.

p. s. A friend just told me that dandelion is not only good for your body, it is good for the earth as well. The root system drills through compacted soil, opening channels for rain, aeration, and earthworms; the deep roots bring calcium. I also meant to mention that bees like dandelions and they are an important food source for them, especially at certain times of the year. So having dandelions around is definitely a win-win-win situation!

Ever used dandelion? Please share about your experience in the comment section.

4/13/21 UPDATE: Just came across this article about 60 recipes for using all the different parts of dandelions. Love the idea and look of the soap, but will probably never get around to actually making it. Would be nice to find it available to buy somewhere.

Use Orange Essential Oil To Alleviate Stress And Anxiety

Boy, with the way things are going in the world these days, it was very timely to come across this article about using orange essential oil for anxiety and stress relief . I have some therapeutic grade Wild Orange essential oil that I love the smell of and often use as an air “freshener” and mood lifter, and after reading this it’s no wonder why.  I immediately got up and put several drops on a cotton ball to infuse the room with its smell, plus dabbed some on my wrists and a little under my nose. Wonderful!!

If you’re like most people, your body is in a state of stress far too often…

Whether you’re fretting over a work deadline, worried about your relationship or feeling frazzled by the state of your finances, it’s easy to let daily life send you into a stress spiral.

But feeling afraid and stressed all the time is no way to live. Even worse, it could eventually take a toll on your physical health… which, in the end, will only create more stress.

But there is a way to stop the cycle of stress and fear… one that could help people with the even most serious fear-based conditions.

Because, truth be told, a lot of people deal with chronic, low-grade stress. But plenty more deal with high levels of chronic stress in the form of diagnosable anxiety disorders like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Post-traumatic stress disorder is a condition where you’re in an ongoing state of fear and stress due to some sort of traumatic experience in your life. It’s one of the most serious anxiety disorders, and it’s pretty hard to overcome. But researchers uncovered what could be a simple and side-effect free solution to PTSD-related stress…

The citrusy solution to stress

Researchers from George Washington University recently determined that orange essential oil can work wonders for mice with a fear disorder similar to PTSD…

These mice were conditioned to experience an intense feeling of fear when they heard a specific tone. Some mice also inhaled orange essential oil before and after being conditioned to fear this tone. And guess what happened to these little guys…

These mice displayed a lot less fear than other mice. For mice, freezing (like a deer in headlights) is a good behavioral sign of fear. But these mice froze less often, and when they did freeze, they did so for a much shorter period of time.

“The orange essential plant oil showed a significant effect on the behavioral response in our study mice. This is promising, because it shows that passively inhaling this essential oil could potentially assuage PTSD symptoms in humans,” said Cassandra Moshfegh, research assistant in Paul Marvar’s laboratory at the George Washington University.

You’ve probably also heard that fear negatively impacts your immune system. Well, researchers found that orange essential oil altered this response in mice too. Mice who inhaled orange essential oil had less immune cells activated in their body after the stressful event. And that’s a good thing…

Chronic stress can cause your immune system to go haywire, which is probably why it’s been linked to autoimmune disorders, among other health problems.

Orange oil for everyday stress

If you don’t have PTSD, but you do feel stressed out and fearful quite often, you may be wondering….

Can orange essential oil help me too?

My thought is, if orange essential oil can help with the serious stress and fear that accompanies a condition like PTSD, it’ll probably do the trick for less serious forms of stress and fear too. And there’s been some research to support this notion…

One study conducted by researchers in Brazil found that people who sniffed sweet orange essential oil before taking a stressful test were less anxious during and after the test than those who sniffed tea tree oil or water.

So there seems to be solid evidence behind the stress-busting powers of orange essential oil. That means, there’s no better time to pick up a bottle and add a few drops to your essential oil diffuser, your bath, your wrist (combined with a carrier oil, of course)… or just inhale it straight from the bottle. Whatever you need to do to alleviate the incessant fear and stress that’s taken over your life and find some peace in your day-to-day.

BTW, orange essential oil has LOTS of uses and benefits, including help with acne and dermatitis, relaxing muscle spasms, and improving cognitive function. Here’s just one article that will make you want to go out and buy some, if you don’t already have it on your shelf. Just be sure you get a high quality, therapeutic grade brand, and know that it can cause photo-sensitivity/toxicity, and only use internally under the supervision of your healthcare practitioner….

Mustard Foot Mask = Multiple Benefits

HA! The picture looks pretty gross, but here’s a quick little self-help health tool to try with multiple benefits……

Mustard Foot Mask

This feels SERIOUSLY good! Just grind up 3-4 teaspoons of black mustard seeds and add enough water to make a paste. A 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne powder gives it a little extra bite, but it’s quite warming even without it. Apply for 20 minutes or until your feet feel warm and ready to carry you through another week.

I was just recommending it for tired, sore feet, but it’s traditional use is actually much deeper. When mustard seeds are ground, a chemical and an enzyme come together to form Allyl isothiocyanate, which is irritating to the skin. This is cancelled out if you use boiling water. This chemical pumps the blood to the feet, pulling it through the legs. This stimulating of the circulation creates a ‘second heart’ in the feet. The effects of this in the traditional literature are diverse, but include relief of headache, fever, sore throat, general cold and flu (treatment and prevention), lethargy, cold extremities, toxic overload, and much more. If left in place too long it will badly blister you however, so take it off if it feels like it’s burning too much. I find 20-30 minutes good myself.

Personal Note: One person left a comment on this post that her grandmother always used this on her when she was sick as a child and it never failed to right the situation. And it seems like I remember my “Nana” using mustard poultices for chest colds, etc. I’m definitely going to give this a try, since I tend to have cold feet, especially in the winter, and I think this will feel good, plus possibly have some great side benefits!

The Benefits of Celery Juice, Plus Free 13 Detox Secrets Webinar

I’m not really a fan of celery as crudité, …….too tasteless unless the pieces are stuffed with something like peanut butter or cheese. 🙂 But I discovered I actually like the mild taste of it juiced, and I can tell it feels good to my body. After hearing Medical Medium Anthony William recommend celery juice on more than one occasion, I started adding it to my morning routine at least 3 or 4 times a week. I use the 2nd method shown in the video below for making it because I happen to have a Vitamix. I don’t strain the pulp out, not only because that saves time, but you get ALL the nutrients and fiber that way. After reading about how good it is for you, you just may want to give it a try yourself!

Celery: Just Juice IT!

Celery is a strongly alkaline food that helps to counteract acidosis, purify the bloodstream, aid in digestion, prevent migraines, relax the nerves, reduce blood pressure, and clear up skin problems. It contains compounds called coumarins which are known to enhance the activity of certain white blood cells and support the vascular system.

Celery’s rich organic sodium content has the ability to dislodge calcium deposits from the joints and holds them in solution until they can be eliminated safely from the kidneys. It is a well known natural diuretic and has ample ability to flush toxins out of the body.

It also contains significant amounts of calcium and silicon, which can aid in the repair of damaged ligaments and bones. Celery is rich in vitamin A, magnesium, and iron, which all help to nourish the blood and aid those suffering from rheumatism, high blood pressure, arthritis, and anemia.

Fresh celery juice is one of the most powerful and healing juices one can drink. Just 16 oz of fresh celery juice a day can transform your health and digestion in as little as one week.

The juice has significant anti-inflammatory properties making it highly beneficial for those who suffer from autoimmune conditions such as fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, migraines, vertigo, IBS, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, eczema, acne, Lupus, Guillain-Barre, Sarcoidosis, Raynaud’s, Meniere’s, GERD, bursitis, Restless Leg Syndrome, and gout.

–
If you’ve been following my work for any amount of time, you probably know that one of the things I most often recommend for healing is to drink straight celery juice daily. It might seem simple, but that’s the the best part – it is simple. With just some celery and a way to juice it, you can transform your health and digestion in as little as one week. Celery juice is that powerful for healing.
For best results, aim for 16 oz of celery juice every morning on an empty stomach. If you find that is too much for you at first, even 4 or 8 oz per day is a wonderful start. Over time you can work up to 16 oz per day.
 –
It’s very important that you have your celery juice on an empty stomach. The best time is in the morning before you’ve eaten breakfast. This allows for optimal digestion and healing benefits.
 –

Preparation:

Wash 1 bunch of celery and run through a juicer, drink immediately for most therapeutic benefits. However, if you prefer, you can also blend the celery in a Vitamix, Nutribullet, or any high speed blender with a little water and either drink as is, or strain as desired.

Optional: if you find the taste of straight celery juice too strong, you can add a cucumber and/or an apple to the juice, however this will slightly dilute its effectiveness. Or, if you prefer a more gentle juice, you can make straight cucumber juice instead, which is also very healing and beneficial

 –
Personal Note: Since I make my “juice” in the Vitamix and leave all the pulp in, I only drink about a juice glass full at a time. Usually I’ll use about 1/2 a “head” of celery and, once I add water to make it liquid/drinkable, get enough for 3 mornings’ worth. I know the article stresses the benefit of drinking it plain, but I often add some lemon juice and peel (organic!) and either a bunch of cilantro, which is great for detoxing heavy metals, or a cucumber.
